He didn't play often there, only twelve appearances in two years, and when he did play it was in the wrong position:mancitymick said:Not blaming him at all for us getting relegated but when it mattered he went missing. A gem of a player when he wanted to be. He was eventually found out when he went to a lesser standard of football in Holland. I fully understand the hero wankfest a lot of for him however when you look at the bigger picture it tells a different story
He was originally signed as a replacement for Jari Litmanen, but Litmanen stayed at Ajax as his proposed move to Barcelona fell through. As a result, Kinkladze played in an unfamiliar left-wing position
He wasn't even playing regularly when we got relegated the second time. After Joe Royle arrived, he wasn't a regular starter. Blaming him, therefore, for that relegation is especially ridiculous.
What I remember of Gio, is a man who was playing at a club that wasn't good enough for his level, and yet still wanted to stay. What I remember of Gio is that he played for us something like 24 hrs after a Georgian international, in the 5-2 at Stoke. What I remember of Gio is that he scored the best goal I've ever seen in the flesh. What I know of Gio is that he still loves us, and has been denied visas when he wanted to represent us in Masters football. So, yep, I still like the guy.
Lesser standard Yes. Not the team he played for but the whole league is a lesser standard. Yes he was played out of position however according to some he can walk on water so should be able to play any where.
