On this day in 1894 MCFC legally became a registered company. Ardwick AFC, the club's predecessor, was still officially in existence at this point and even played a game 2 weeks after the new Blues became established, but 16th April is the date when the new club became properly registered.

Happy birthday!

The original aims of the club weren't just football - they were "football, cricket, lacrosse, lawn tennis, hockey, bowls, bicycyle & tricycle riding, running, jumping, the physical training and development of the human frame, and other athletic sports, games, and exercises of every description, and any other games, pastimes, sports, recreation, amusements or entertainments..." and it goes on.

Wouldn't that be just a generic list when the club registered (provided to the club when nominating sport as its purpose) like the ones on a company's memorandum and articles of association?

Possibly, but City did organise many annual athletic festivals and other activities. Basically, I think they were covering all bases but they did have a real interest in athletic events as well (this started a few years before with Ardwick's annual athletics festival).

I'm sure they did, which is why a "cover all bases" list of aims would have been provided. I reckon the club secretary would have told the clerk at whatever body registered clubs at the time, the the club's aims extended beyond football and he would have ascribed that generic definition - at least it reads that way to me.
