Happy birthday buzzer
I was at St. James Park and the Newcastle fans were fantastic. They wanted us to win the league and were almost as happy as we were at the final whistle.Happy Birthday Buzzer.
Never saw him play live, but watched countless old footage of City from the late 60s early 70s when the Great Man was part of our dangerous attack. The Newcastle away 1968 footage stands out,the day we won the title....what a tough place to go and get 3 pts...utd the reigning champions were at home to Sunderland that day and the MoTD cameras went to old Trafford, where the League trophy was...utd lost 1nil.......and City with Bell Lee and Summerbee fought tooth and nail in a ding dong match in front of a hostile home crowd ...to win 4-3 and win the title.
What a moment !
Met Mike personally a few times, shared a plane flight to Dublin with him as he went over as the city representative at Dublin Branch 20 year anniversary do at The plough.....great night ,and we all ended up doing the Conga around the hotel ,Mike and his missus in tow,a great night..Summerbee was fantastic company
Blue to the core, one of the best footy nights of my life.
Great player,great person.
Me and the Mrs bumped into him outside Brighton after our title win, he was sound chatted posed for pictures. Maybe you caught him on a bad day :-)Only met him the once and I got to say I thought he was a right miserable old sod. nice to hear from other people that is not the case. Happy birthday Buzzer.
It didn't look great, but he managed the whole event standing so that was good.looked very unsure on his feet.
hope he is okay.
That's a brilliant post. Was sad to see Buzzer struggling.
Can still see him at Sheff U in 1972 whilst waiting to take a corner with their fans chanting big nose at him.
He picked up a plastic cup and held it over his nose to make it appear bigger. Even the Sheff U fans applauded.
Seeing him tonight just made me realise time waits for no man.
Was going to say that myself. That's a brilliant post.
The back, hips, knees and feet don’t half suffer when people get older. My Grandad walked like that for years as he was a removals man for 40 years and every joint in his body was fucked after lifting wardrobes and pianos up stairs for so many decades, but he was healthy other than that.looked very unsure on his feet.
hope he is okay.
