Happy Record Crowd Anniversary

Today is the anniversary of City’s record crowd of 84,569. This remains the record attendance for any game on a club ground. It is also the record for any game in Britain outside of Glasgow and London.

I’ve written quite a lot on this over the years such as:

If Swales was in charge there would be just 54,000 there.

Fuck all on the telly. BBC didn't start broadcasting (tv) until 1934 and didn't really get going until 1936.
Maybe there were socio-economic factors.

In that season, that lot were scrambling about at the bottom the second division, and they never saw more than 22,000 for a home game. Oddly enough, they hosted Bury on the same day we met Stoke, yet only 11,000 turned up.

Just radio. I'm assuming a 2pm ko or thereabouts so looking at the Radio Times they (Midlands) would have had Folk Songs & Dances starting at 3pm, that must be great to listen to on the radio. Army v Navy rugby on National. The North had Don Baker on his organ.

That's a great comparison. Also the Rag bastards were getting regular 4'5'6'000 attendances. I think they even got a few in the 3'000s. But nothing is ever mentioned of this. I wonder why.

Many record attendances in the 30's.

3rd on the all-time British club ground record:

118,567 Rangers v Celtic
95,772 Queens Park v Rangers
84,569 City v Stoke

Hmmm, I thought the club with over 659m fans and that dipper cult would be well ahead on this?
