Hard To Be Here

It's fine to criticise, but this whole "hot take" social media climate basically taught a lot of people that you're either world class or stealing a living. Nuance is getting slaughtered. I've said Trafford played badly today, which he did. He doesn't need selling, he isn't a waste of money, he's just in a position where the lights might be too bright right now.

Also, this "Pep destroys a players creativity" narrative is the footballing equivalent of 5G causing Covid. Its literally never happened at any club Pep has managed at. And even if it has, he's managed Lio Messi, KDB, Bernardo, Xavi, and Iniesta to name a few and made them all better players. He developed Rodri from a bit player at Atleti to the REIGNING BALLON D'OR HOLDER.

Don't go, we need the sane ones more than ever right now. 2 games into the Prem, we've won 1, lost 1, goal difference of plus 2. 4 years of a gold badge on the sleeve has warped people's reality with City. Bad results happen, we've still never finished below 3rd since Pep came.

the experts on here will have a plan - keep the faith - meanwhile over to the 'what are you listening to right now'? thread

The football under Pearce was dire and he had no idea how to get goals that weren't set-pieces but at the very least he knew how to organise a defence. The club was on the brink of administration during the 06-07 season and our squad was comprised of teenagers, 35-year-olds, and Dunne and Distin. But somehow he kept us up with a few games to spare. Absolutely dire to watch, but those wins at Newcastle and Boro were proper backs to the wall jobs.

Also added a bit of entertainment with that stupid teddy he'd bring into the technical area and occasionally he'd leg it onto the pitch like a man possessed.

As a regular contributor to the forum, and a fan since 1968, I am looking at the forum tonight, and for large parts of last season, and wondering how I can avoid becoming so utterly irritated by mindless comments. Apparently Rico is the least athletic player in the entire league, Cherki will have the flair taken from him, and Pep will ruin Omar Marmoush, just as three examples. Every single one of us feels a defeat, but does it really need to come with comments so devoid of sense or sporting insight because we didn't take away the points and have lost our heads?
Don't worry about it mate, people have always talked shite, the only difference is now it goes in writing for all to see.

I bet every fan was made up with that team before ko, turns out we all know fuck all!

I think the problem is the fact Pep won't change things when it isn't working.

The changes he did make second half were too late and made absolutely no difference whatsoever.

I'm gonna say it though, I'm a bit on the fence with OM. Goes missing and fluffs the big moments when needed.

It's sport, it's unpredictable, a lot of people have yet to grasp the concept. I missed the game today as I was playing golf, I was shite, but last week I was great, that's how it works.
We are so far from unpredictable!

I think this is partly a result of 10 years of continual success.

Some fans act like spoiled brats and they cannot handle one season of not winning anything….(might even be two years)

It’s the same as the fans who are giving up supporting City because they don’t agree with the new ticketingy policies etc……
similar to the ones who threatened to ‘give up’ because they couldn’t get tickets for the Champions league final in Porto.

By all means voice your concerns/criticisms but their love for City cannot be that great if they are prepared to give their tickets up so easily.

FWIW, I think Marmoush on the whole has been underwhelming and so far lacks the quality required, Lewis defensive lapses are costing us on a consistent basis….however I think Cherki has all the ability in the world…..but I will always get behind whoever Pep picks for his first eleven.

Pep has also made some weird team selections over the last year or so and is not beyond reproach….but I still back him.

It’s generally always been this way tbh, although it is seemingly getting worse. It’s certainly not specific to Bluemoon though. It’s largely the same for all clubs, and on all platforms. It’s the nature of the beast. People online tend to go that bit further to try and make their voices stand out more. There’s less room for pragmatism these days. Why simply say a player was poor today, when you can say he’s an absolute disgrace who should never pull on the shirt again? It’s tedious, I know, but some people crave attention.

It’s just becoming more noticeable now on here as we’re on a relative decline at the moment, after years of unprecedented success. Some of the over-reactions irk me too, but I’ve come to realise that people generally vent after a defeat and if I don’t want to see it then to give social media a swerve for 24 hours until things calm down again.

I honestly think a lot of the Pep haters are reds pretending to be blues
No one hates pep! People are pointing out though (as I am) that there are issues with the system he persists with which dont suit the personnel and which are costing us goals and games, and have been for 18 months.

Thats on Pep. He is one of the best managers in the world. Am sure he’d accept that

If he doesn’t sort it then it’s likely he won’t be here much longer, which would be a sad end given how much he has given us.

It’s not a knee jerk reaction to losing, it’s a response to months of quite average football (tempered by some better results in the last half of the season).

Why are football fans constantly surprised when other football fans are mad that their team plays bad? I find that a bigger mystery.
It’s more like they are desperate to show that they are the biggest blue if they are happy clappers. Most happy clappers I have seen here are boomers who think just because they have been to the games when we used to be shit, they must be enlightened or something and anyone who criticizes the team haven’t see the dark days. Conveniently forgetting that we are not what we used to be and with bigger exposure comes bigger expectations.

It would be wrong to argue that Rico wasn’t one of the least athletic players in the league and certainly one of the least athletic in elite teams.

He’s a decent footballer but his athletic shortcomings are so severe that he’d need to be an absolutely outstanding talent to compensate for this, which he isn’t, and so as an overall package he’s a bang average player who shouldn’t be anywhere near our first team.

You might disagree with that opinion but I think it’s weird that you’d read comments of that ilk and think they were extreme and devoid of any sense.

Listen, there is no problem in anger and frustration - it is natural after a loss like that. I am not talking of anger and frustration. I am speaking of that anger leading to statements about the players and manager that are simply untrue. Rico isn't the least athletic player in our squad never mind the whole league. Cherki having the flair sucked from him - just utter bollocks.

It is not about fans disagreeing. It is not about different opinions. It is about a loss so affecting someone's brain that they post vitrol that has no basis in fact.
