That's not a statement - he'd have been asked that question from a reporter, probably at a press conference. What would you like him to say?.

In case you missed this important line: "I think he can do it, but his position is as a midfield player.”

The difference being that Vinnie wasn't too crash hot in the middle of the park, and he moved to CB at young age. Again, Fernandinho is one of the best in the world in his position, one in which quality is as rare as hen's teeth and he is very close to retirement, having played his entire professional career in midfield.

It's pure Football Manager, fantasy thinking coming out again to propose for him to move to a position he's barely played before at this stage in his career. If we have CBs, he does not need to play there and nor should we expect him to.

I agree. It's wishful thinking if you reckon he's just going to seamlessly slot in as a CB. I still reckon going into the new season a CB down could potential be a mistake. It seems Pep doesn't wholly trust Stones. Otamendi can still be rash at times and I just don't see Fernandinho making the step into the CB role and instantly performing at the standards that we'd need him to.

Garcia definitely looks like a star. But he definitely needs time, I think he'll be eased into the side like Foden.

Definitely eased in but I don’t see any reason why he can’t start about 10 games in all comps. The majority in the domestic cups with the odd PL start.

I agree, he’s Foden level impressive. Unreal composure for someone his age.

I think you only have to look at the likes of Delph. A Premier league winner as a left back! ditto Zinchenko. Phillip lahm, Josh kimmich. This isn’t a one off. Pep sees the qualities in players to play different roles. That’s one of his many qualities as a manger and football expert. Fernandinho isn’t going to be a regular CB but to dismiss him outright is very short sighted. Time will tell I suppose and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

They're probably balking at 60m because it's only Maguire. I reckon we'd be willing to go considerably higher if it was a top tier defender who suited our style of play.
Bottom line is City would not even entertain the thought of Maguire if they did not think he fit are style of play. I would imagine this is the first factor they consider, then how much?

I agree, he’s more first team ready than Foden as crazy as it sounds. Eric was giving directions to Otamendi in one game. He’s been captain at every level. Not once did I watch him play and think this is a youngster playing with men. He fits right in.

this is where maguire will have to push Leicester , as was mentioned by Tolmie a while back
if he hands in a transfer request and then doesn't get his move, he's fucked then with the Leicester fans, they have rich owners he's not leaving on the cheap.

You could argue our defence is better, for a start we don't play with 2 DMs every game, we only play with one, hence more attacking football, we played significantly more games than them last season, had more injuries to key players, yet only conceded 1 goal more than them in the league, so I don't see how the dippers have a better defence than ours.

Looking at the individuals just an opinion would have van dick and the fullbacks. The way we play can be argued both ways.

Fern would have CB for breakfast. He’s an incredibly intelligent player particularly in the defensive elements.

He’d piss it.

But he clearly isn’t a long term option due to age.

I haven't read the whole thread but who thinks that Leicester have as much potential as the rags, and that being the case, why would Maguire want to move from a well organised up and coming team to a basket case like the rags?
(Money I guess.)

They played some nice stuff when they came to the Etihad towards the end of the season. They were really hard to break down and create chances again, if Rodgers can get them knocking the goals in the other end why can’t they look at finishing 6 or 7th. Fuck if Arsenal implode maybe higher than that.

That’s Garcia/Harwood-Bellis perfect opportunity to be slowly brought in similar to Foden with Silva.
