I agree that the fee is irrelevant. Liverpool set the standard with £75m (?) for the Dutch fella. If Guardiola wants him and thinks he's our starter alongside Laporte then regardless of the price we should go for him.

I want him but still it's that price. 75 mill with add ons would seem a compromise I suppose. But I think Leicester are likely to dig in. Maguire may have force things from his side, even then though there's no guarantee Leicster will deal.

really unrealistic to expect a player to only want to join us when there are other top teams. if a player has multiple top clubs after him and they are willing to pay the fee and we are not he would be pretty stupid to risk it and only want to join us when we are negotiating a fee when there are other top teams ready to take him and pay what it takes. sorry to say as much as we would like to think we aren't the most attractive club in the world and players have every right to keep their options open.

If you want to play in the best league in the world then it’s a no brainier, it’s us (if you understand the game) or Liverpool (if you believe the media hype). Obviously some players will be attracted to Barcelona or Madrid but that’s their choice if they’ve got that option, whatever you offer isn’t going to make a difference if their heart isn’t in it, even if they come they’ll eventually want to leave to go there (e.g. Hazard). You may get some who want to play for the best team in their home nation too but there’s not many more attractive propositions than City and Pep right now in a purely footballing sense.

If players want money rather than football, then we don’t want them it really is that simple.

Of course the people like myself who have doubts over Maguire could be wrong but even the likes of Pep makes mistakes. Look at Bravo and Mahrez.

I think along the lines of the Felix thread, the money being suggested is just not what City do. We don't overpay for players any more and recent history shows we will just walk away. 80/90 million is rediculous for what is clearly a good player, but in reality nothing more than that.

It's not that simple.

If a player chooses money over coming to City, good luck to them. There are a list of City players who earlier on in the takeover who did exactly the same came for the corn and they set the platform for where we are today.

I don't think Ramos would solely come to City for the love of football but I'd have him in a heartbeat as long as he was committed in his performances.

Historically Tevez is a perfect example, he never loved city and I from a footy perspective he probably had better options club wise.
However, he came for the money and generally in his performances worked his butt off, raising the game of others around him and laying the foundations of what we have today.

I have no problem with those that quite rightly want to be paid what there worth before signing, more important to me is their commitment and performances on the pitch.

Yaya did not work out to bad for us. He had the pick of Europe football wise before coming to us. Yet he agitated for a bump in his salary every other year and is a legend at the club now.

I would agree but there has to be something we are missing, more than a handful of clubs want a CB yet he is not rumored to go anywhere other than the rags.

I like him and want him to come but alternatively if he was to go to Utd, he will be talked upbeyond anything we have heared about Vvd. Utd will be heralded for giving English players a chance and or assisting the goals of the national team.
