At first glance this seems a reasonable point, if the player couldn't have played when the game was scheduled, they shouldn't be permitted to play when rescheduled.....
Then we think about players sold after the original scheduled date, players injured on either date etc and it appears to be an absolutely idiotic idea

I seem to recall a club kicking off against Bolton a few years back when they were deep in the shit and couldn’t field a team. Think it was Doncaster who argued when the game was re-arranged that Bolton should have been made to play with the players available for the abandoned game. I just remember a few Bolton mates pissing themselves about it.

But, what about teams like Liverpool who seem to be trying to delay any meaningful, tough, fixture until their afcon players return?

I said this a few weeks ago. Newcastle, to be fair to them, only had one game postponed, which was less than their rivals. But it would have been dodgy if they'd had three games delayed and then spent hundreds of millions on new players that they could then field.

But yeah, it's not really a workable idea because, as you say, you can't bring back players you sold in the transfer window.

Squads are big enough to handle one or two players that have left. They shouldn’t benefit from signings in my view for postponed games.
