Have I ruined my CPU?

That CPU launched October 2018 so probably well outside any warranty I'd have thought.
Still selling them now though, but i was assuming it was the fan on the cooler at fault. Like Mexico says, it's hopefully a loose connector. JRock if you want the replacement fan that was suggested you can have mine, its just lying in my office looking sadly at me..

I have one of these that i took out of mine to upgrade and can give it for free, but surely this one should be a 'go back to whoever built it'. That's a decent enough cooler, if he's getting fan errors then it should be going back under warranty (assuming it still is in it).
Warranty might be invalid if the case has been opened. I've operated systems at work where opening the case triggers a microswitch that sets a switch on the motherboard and gets dumped into a logfile on next boot. I wouldn't be surprised if manufacturers have a similar feature enabled.

That's a good point but I doubt a system with an i9-9900k in it would have been used in general office work.

But you never ever know mate.

Just as an aside with companies like EVGA they will replace bad units regardless of a system builders own policies, I have personally RMA'd 2 PSU units that were 5 years old or over.

Asking costs nowt,

Ours were early i5's. The case opened flag was due to the required security spec. One of my tasks as system security auditor was to manually copy the windows log files and burn them to CD for safe storage. We also had to go through the log files and note any log on times which appeared out of the ordinary. It was tedious to say the least.

Water pumps are garbage and vulnerable to failure exactly like that.

Been dealing with PC's for 30 years now.. not had 1 air cooler fail! Just use an air blower to blow the lint out once a year and you're fine.

Oh and Noctua coolers and fans are worth the premium price since you seem to be able to afford it as you bought a water cooler.

All good now! Took it in to PC Xpress in Sale on Friday. They checked it out same day and confirmed the general diagnosis of a cooling unit failure. Replacement part was needed so they advised it would be either yesterday or today that it would be ready.. They phoned today at lunch-time. As well as the new cooling unit they added an extra fan (reconditioned) to the casing at no extra cost. Picked it up this afternoon and has been working without issue since.

Just in time to have a laugh at the rags tonight. Thanks again to all who contributed to the thread.
