Heading the ball to be banned at U12 level (season long trial)

Madness. I've headed a ball since that age and it's done me no how much for the pink coloured paper towels I'm not paying that and why is it that we have to go to Doncaster everytime you post this I'm on the way but I don't have enough Jaffa cakes to pay the fair.
Exactly !!!

The ball weight never changed, just how it reacts, and the older ones would gain weight with mud and water.

Even when there were Mitre ball in div 1,there were different types you could get, all the same weight, however some would stay a lot lower if kicked the same way, while others were like balloons. Each club picked the ball to suit their style, however they were all the same size and weight.

Good luck with that at corners.

Views, blues?
I'm 5ft 7" when I was 12 I'd have been lucky to be 5ft. When the ball came in when we got a corner I got told to use my height. I scored most of my goals living of scraps. Right place right time. Height is an illusion when it comes to football.

Thanks Brian for that one.

Caught the back end of a piece on the radio yesterday.

Basically saying the issue is potentially more prevalent now as it is due to the velocity of the ball.

Modern balls travel faster, the impact speed causes more damage.

On a serious note

Joking aside my father in law who played as a centre half for the joiners if any of you know who they are has dementia. I think it was through nutting all those case's years ago.
Also I met Tommy booths brother in hospital he had advanced dementia and he was fit and healthy but thought he was in Spain. I tried to explain he was not but he was convinced. Scary horrible disease.

It is near enough impossible to minimise impact as far as heading the ball is concerned. Regardless of age

Not really. Just enforce a below head height rule.

Football should be played with the feet in my opinion, I’d like to watch a game where it has been outlawed just to see the impact, otherwise we’re all just guessing that it will kill the game as we know it.

Maybe it would enhance the game with enforced playing out from the back and passing the ball forwards rather than kicking it high and long

Most kids under 12 can’t head it anyway. They either mistime the header of duck out of the way. I remember watching a train8ng session where they practices corners for about 15 mins and in all that time I think the kids connected with about 4 headers. Comical really.

True as F=MA.

The rules may not have changed, but the balls weigh a lot less than the caseys of yesteryear.
If the mass is halved but the speed has doubled the force is exactly the same. The mass hasn't halved, but the speed has increased dramatically. The forces imparted by 'modern' balls could actually be greater.
