Heathrow shut

Some itk news:

Power back on, critical systems being tested.as we speak.

Repatriation flights will be a priority and some expected to start coming in from 6pm today.
Tomorrow scheduled flights likely to be relatively normal, if a lot busier.

Source is somebody working in there now.

Some guy on Sky now saying hotels hiked prices up from yesterday. £90 to £448 in the case of one fella.

Thats a proper cunts trick if true.

You know their pathetic defense will be something along the lines of:

"the dynamic pricing sets the appropriate price depending on a number of variables etc etc"

As if it's something the hotels don't have control of, when of course they bloody well do!

Two backups failed
[1] The alternative substation next door was caught up in the fire.
[2] The brand spanking new biomass backup generator didn't generate.

Having just watched first 2 series of Wild Horses (a great watch if haven’t seen it) I’m going for Russian espionage given what is being discussed and led by the UK re-Ukraine.
Do you mean “Slow Horses” or is it a different spy series?

Loads of backup sources, all "operated as expected". What's the point in just having a partial back up if you still need to shut down completely?

"A Heathrow source also told the BBC that they have "multiple sources" of energy at the airport – with diesel generators and "uninterruptable power supplies" in place.

They added when the power outage happened the back up systems "all operated as expected"
The systems, however, are not enough to run the whole airport – hence the decision to close it down"

If that doesn’t sum up “What the actual fuck?!” I don’t know what does!

The back up system operated as expected, so we had to shutdown one of the worlds busiest airports and cost the economy billions!

Which dickhead builds an essential systems back up that, when it works AS EXPECTED, causes a complete shutdown of the system (the operation of the airport) it is designed to protect?

Was it designed by Lucas?

Understandable in the current climate.

Genuine fault of not, critical national infrastructure (CNI) has always been a target of foreign adversaries. Future wars will be waged not on the battlefield, but in the social and cyber domains. The best way to bring a country to its knees is to create division and disruption amongst the general population, and what better way than disrupting or disabling the power grid? Imagine life without electricity for a prolonged period? Most people in the Western world couldn't do an hour without going stir crazy.

Authorities seem to have been quick to jump to a 'technical fault' conclusion, but it could easily have been a cyber-attack. You only have to disable automated monitoring equipment remotely and then induce a fault condition. There are perhaps a few state actors that are capable of that level of subterfuge, and it wouldn't be the first time Russia had done it.

And imagine the panic amongst the population if the government came out and said, 'a foreign adversary hacked our power grid and shut down a major international transport hub'? The stock markets would take a nose-dive.

If anything, this has highlighted a major weakness in our CNI.
That post should be copied and pasted in the Ukraine thread.
Putin showed how arrogant he is by thinking he could walk through Ukraine in 3 days. 3 years later he is in shit creek.
The problem was, he was using old tactics, soldiers tanks and planes.
He has now realised the best way to win a war is undermine the current regime using all that you have posted.

If he is allowed to be victorious thanks to Orange Donald he won't make the same mistake with the other former Soviet block countries.

Not surprised.

Eurostar and airlines doing the same.
Scum bags mate, and whilst I’m not trying to compare the two incidents in anyway at all, the results are the same - people needing help and accommodation. Immediately after the arena attack, home owners, pubs and hotels opened their doors free of charge to people needing help.

To increase prices to take advantage of people stranded, stuck or however you want to put it is just the lowest of the low. Hoping it’s highlighted as much as it can be and those who have done it are named and shamed. We are talking tens of thousands here.

Bet its arson and I bet it was Russia that paid for it.
Not having triple - let alone double backup for critical infrastucture just shows what a state the UK is in.
Lol. Can just imagine Putin sat in the Kremlin instructing his forces to forget Kiev and instead focus on just about the biggest shit hole in north west London.

I fully agree. Price surging should be made illegal.

I'd have gone for Mossad after Lammy said they may have broken international law before hastily back peddling.
