"here's to you Vincent Kompany"

“The new guys as well are all players that will improve our team and give us a good chance of having a good season.”

VK's take on the season? Matches my own view for the last fifty seasons! Hope it matches a certain three seasons and not the other forty-seven!

with the permission of the op i have edited the title of this thread. "well said vinny" simply does not do him justice. its EVERYTHING about him that he does well. on the pitch, off the pitch, in interviews and in his assessment of what manchester city is all about.
i have been watching city an awful long time and i have never known anything like him. without doubt our greatest captain but better still has there ever been a better more acomplished spokesman. he reads the press and the situation in front him so well. he knows people are there to snipe and to draw a stupid comment or a negative from him. more fool them. highly intelligent and polished in every way he gives them nothing to chew on. a lovely man and a true legend of this club. we are priveledged, totally priveledged to have him as a player, a captain and as our image.

so here's to you Vincent Kompany, city really do love you more than you will know.

Couldn't have put it better myself Mr D.
Signed a new 5 year contract today, by all accounts, too. :-)

Here here.

Just watched tunnel cam from last night's game. It's just incredible the way Vinnie carries himself. His body language just oozes power/confidence. Compare that with that of the Scousers (Gerrard included) ... they looked cowed by comparison. The man's a colossus, on and off the pitch. Christ, are lucky to have him?!

This is a huge thing in rugby. The psychological aspect of appearing serious, confident, un-fazed by the occasion.

Remember when we played United at home in 2012 (1-0, Kompany header), when the teams were lining up with the silly Premier League music playing before the silly handshakes?...well if you see footage back of that, you'll notice a few of United's players were stood there and their knees were shaking, while Vincent had a look down our line of players, gave a few claps and nodded and all our lads were stood there like giants.

These things might not even be consciously noticeable to opposition players but they still get into the subconscious and do have an effect on games.

It's like players who show too much emotion. Clarence Seedorf talked about it as a pundit on the Ghana v Germany game during the Wold Cup. He mentioned how when Ghana scored then had another good chance soon after that the players were showing too much emotion, going wild when they scored and looking really pumped up on another close chance. Staying calm and looking calm gives off more of a settled and stable air than people who go berserk. In the end Germany, after being poor for an hour in that game, scored late on to equalise and Seedorf put a great deal of that down to the differences in how they teams behaved during the game, not particularly about the quality of the players.

Pellegrini is much that kind of character. Calm and unflappable.
