Hi Fi

So I signed up for the month free trial. As a Amazon Prime customer I can get Amazon HD for £12 a month if I decide to continue. (Tidal is £20 pm). So I have listened it on all my sources, from the echo up to my main hi fi and I think it’s better than Tidal from a quality of sound perspective. Mrs S listened to the Stones on her phones whilst she was on the treadmill and said it was more detailed than she had ever heard. Need to check it out for usability and breadth but looking good so far.
To be quite honest mate I don't there is any audible difference between Tidal and Amazon HD unless you have immaculate hearing and a fabulous hifi. And even then I very much doubt it.

But £8 per month difference? We can all detect that!

I have some aperiodic cabinets that need to find some full range drivers for. I'll eventually be using them for my DIY LM3875 Gainclone system.

The Gainclone is essentially a chip based amplifier with an incredibly short signal path, and at 56W continuous into 8ohms (single channel) it's a giant killer of an amplifier when driving modest loudspeakers. I use a passive attenuator, and it is incredibly clean and detailed.
Wow.

I have a decent Hifi but less than perfect hearing. One ear is very good, the other not so much!
Linn Selekt DSM Network Player and Monitor Audio Silver 200 Speakers. I cant remember the last time I played a CD.

Style over substance. Not the worst sounding gear by a long stretch, but doesn't warrant its premium price tag.
Their consumer stuff, absolutely. Overpriced and - pound for pound - usually underperforming. But not exactly "bad". A sort of higher-end Bose really. Also overpriced and not very good (headphones aside, for both Bose and B&O actually.)

That said they develop some great technology. For example their Ice Power class D amp modules were incredible when they were first introduced (still are, it's just that others have caught them up and overtaken them). It was the B&O amps which were pretty much put in a nice box and rebadged by high-end manufacturers like Bel Canto and Jeff Rowland. Yes, they would argue otherwise and they added custom input buffers and the like, but to all intents and purposes you were buying a £200 B&O amp module in a £1,500 box.
