I didn’t realise the implications of how high mine was tbh, I thought around 160 was not too bad but have realised since that’s not at all good. As I said probably a bit of white coat syndrome but the doctor told me on the days that I was way over normal levels, he actually said there was a chance of a heart attack or stroke if I went ahead with the Colonoscopy procedure that I was due to be sedated for.

Thought I was reasonably fit for my age , 59 years old now. Started with chest pains went straight to A&E , luckily enough the ECG showed no heart attack but my blood pressure was through the roof . On medication now and waiting for hospital appointment for stress test. I’m a HGV driver and they’ve told me my license is at risk which is rather worrying but as my Mrs says health is wealth .
Started to look after myself a little better by more exercise , cut the drinking down and watch what I eat , been a wake up call for sure .
As the OP said getting a blood pressure monitor is £20 we’ll spent . Becoming a FOC isn’t much fun .

Good luck Pablo, for the ten years before I retired at 63 I ran a small transport business where I too drove for about 3 days a week, very stressful, plus looking after my elderly widowed Dad 7 days a week. Probably got too much in the end, best wishes to you.

Yes white coat syndrome can be a bugger when taking blood pressure, I'm a relatively calm bloke, don't panic, but it still gets me. Missus results were sky high at the docs, bought a home machine, normal range results, went back to the docs knowing the high figures were as a result of WCS, and got a better set of numbers, but even then, still higher than home

I’m on my Soap box here, I went to hospital for a procedure a few months ago, it was cancelled as my Blood Pressure was 235/111, the Doctor was very concerned and I was referred back to my GP to resolve.

After several changes to medication I’m now at normal levels, I’ve attached my latest reading here as proof.

My main reason for posting though is this, high BP is the silent killer, so many people die suddenly because they don’t know they have it. Just buy a home monitor for around £20 and check once a week. Out of all the members on here there will be significant numbers who could be in danger but high BP doesn’t present any symptoms. Please, please don’t ignore, especially if you’re over 50 and have a degree of stress in your life.

My doctor said I was nailed on for a heart attack or stroke, I’m 65 btw and thankful for medical attention that may give me extra years.
Don't you do a lot of running? If so you would expect your cardiovascular system to be healthy

Going for joint surgery later this week just took todays reading 149/87. On meds for BP so hope its not too hogh for surgery.

i went for an unrelated check a few years ago and mine was 230 over 120 they made me go to a and e i had loads of tests but they couldnt put their finger on it.i take 3 tablets a day now and it seems stable now.the only thought i had at the time is i had just had my first covid jab so i wondered if my body was reacting to the jab

Good advice but good lord I've never seen figures as high as that, in fact I've never seen anything within 50 of the 235 figure. I think you're a lucky man to be here to post all
I had the same level as @hammocity. Discovered on the day of the CL final with Chelsea. Doctor told me not to get stressed!
Have been on several meds but bp is still erratic 140 to 175 systolic. I used to take a lot of exercise but buggered hips and spine put a stop to that.
I still get breathless regularly and dizzy sometimes. At my age 76, there is little that can be done, I feel. Still, physio next week and orthopaedic surgeon after that.
If anybody has any tips or advice, please let me know. Cheers.

I got a text from my surgery telling me I had high blood pressure the other day.
I had it tested a few weeks ago but they didn't actually tell me there and then.
I've been overweight since starting to take a certain medication that makes me ravenously hungry.

Are they putting you on meds for the high blood pressure?

Get to the Doctor mate, Mrs H was to high at 170 to go for her operation, you’re way over and definitely need attention.
Tested again this afternoon and it's not as high at 143/89.

I guess there is a lot of variance depending on the quality of the equipment being used.

Going to keep an eye on it for a few days and see how it goes.

Mine is so high I don't check it. Don't want the stress. It's always been absurd. I take the Beta Blockers, maintain a decent weight, and am learning to forget what doesn't matter or can't be solved, whilst making my feelings known occassionally!

Rough as fuck this last week, warm feeling in leg, which suggests my circulation is shit. Sweating too.

Not sure about the headaches and stuff. Presumably just yet another virus. Sigh.

Having avoided the docs beyond any sanity over the last couple of years, fair to say I'll be phoning them first thing Tuesday.

I'm 56 and NEVER get high blood pressure due to being on Propranolol for 20 years or so. 30, maybe. I origanally got it prescribed for anxiety, and it helped with the fast heart rate anxiety.
When I asked the doctor about coming off them, he asked what for...I'll live forever on them! A wonder drug.
Maybe not right for everyone, though.

My sister was in Ramapril but gave her a horrible cough, now on Candarstaten which has finally sorted her BP out, she’s 7 stone, 5 feet tall, 60, fit as a butcher’s dog and eats incredibly healthy. Maybe mention this drug to your GP.

As the OP said - it's the "silent killer" with no symptoms whatsoever

I was prescribed Ramapril years ago, but never bothered taking them - well, once in a Blue Moon (no pun intended)

Last year, I had pains, sweats, pins & needles and generally felt rough, the doctor sent me to A&E straight away as they thought I could be having a stroke (luckily I wasn't)

A&E were very good, very thorough to be fair and done all sorts of tests........then I saw a stroke specialist who asked me if I was on any medication and I told him I was on Ramapril, but didn't bother taking them [properly]

His personna changed completely and he gave me a proper ticking off stating one of his pet hates is people who are prescribed medication and never bother taking them - the medication is prescribed for a reason.

Since then, I've taken my tablets daily, ( don't want a stroke, I don't want brain damage and I like my eyesight!!

Truly is the silent killer
