Fewer domestic flights. Sorting the economy, making the North stronger and the South less overloaded.

This lot couldn't sort out the different coloured sweets from a tube of Smarties
I have always been a Conservative voter, but due to local issues I will never vote Tory again and that's without hair brained schemes like this

To be honest is it really worth it for just a 20 minute time saving?

Not much is it!

It's not 20 mins, the websites reckons it'll take 1hr 8mins to get from Piccadill to Euston or Heathrow. Taking more than an hour off the time.

Why do we need that then?

We need it building now not in several years time. Another hair brained idea that the incoming labour government will need to sort out.

If it ever happens it will be too expensive for the normal public to use. It will be filled by executives who will buy homes in Cheshire instead of Surrey that will commute to London and back daily

This post ignores the laws of supply and demand, but even if that was the extent of it then it will be worthwhile imo. Why should all the wealth be in the South East? If successful people don't feel the need to live near to London to the same extent surely that's a good thing for the North West.

And this benefits the people whose property they'll have to build over in what way exactly?
This is the same argument put forward when the Motorways were first proposed.

Sorry, I wasn't around in the 1940's.

I think it's essential for modernising the infrastructure of our Victorian rail network. Our country's compact size will only be a selling point for business if we are able to exploit it accordingly. You can now go from Guangzhou to Beijing in 8hours, so our current travel time from Manchester to London is a bit of a joke.

My only problem with it is the 2032 completion date! I know it's an awful lot of work but it still seems ridiculous that it can't be done in under a decade. I really don't understand the outcry from most of the public whenever a sensible infrastructure project like this is suggested - particuarly on here where it will benefit Mancunians a lot more than others!
