You'll always find people willing to do walks but pick your route carefully and like has been said before - learn how to use a map and compass it's much more fun/rewarding than a GPS, I'm doing my survival instructors course next July so if anyone fancies a couple of days building shelters/lighting fires sometime after then I'd be willing to go!! On a slight tangent has anyone on here done an accelerated free fall course? Is so I'd appreciate some tips!!

Most hill walkers and trekkers try very hard to avoid accelerated free fall

:)

I actually laughed!! I said it was a tangent! Just wondered if any of you adventure types had done it! What grade do you climb to? Always wanted to start but I'm feeling to old to do it!

Never too old, mate. Most of the indoor walls do basic courses.

I currently climb around VS on trad gritstone routes. I'm not much of a rock athelete these days, so I don't do bolted stuff.

I do like the long traditional routes that don't have highly technical climbing.

VS makes it sound better than very severe! It's the beginners bit I'm not looking forward to as I have done some climbing when I was in the forces but only scrabbling up slight rock faces (3 points of contact etc) and climbing with knotted ropes and that was an age ago 10+ years infact!

Any schools you know of in North mancs/Lancashire?!

Have a look on here, mate:

There are indoor walls all over the place these days. A few sessions will teach you how to tie on and do basic abseils etc. You'll also find out if it's for you before buying rock shoes, a harness and a belay device - which are all the basics you'll need to carry on indoor climbing and to start outdoors.
