I LOVE this one!

My rule of thumb… if you’re in a Recommendations thread on YouTube where the visuals in the videos are of a vinyl record, then you’ll be almost definitely listening to great Hip hop.

Some great pictures, in today's Grauniad documenting the early days of the New York Hip Hop scene

Late 1970s was when Hip hop fashion was at its best.

Adidas Superstars, Nike Cortez, Adi+Nike tracksuits, polo t-shirts, white socks pulled up to the knee with shorts on, fedoras with tracksuits, bucket hats.

Before big gold chains, before extremely baggy clothes, before jeans worn down past the arse… the originators were the coolest ever!

This was more of a street fashion of the time, as the likes of the Grandmaster Flash and Mele Mel were on TV and videos wearing leather suits and hats looking like a group that had been pulled out of a gay club of the time with loads of product shining in their hair.

Great time to be alive watching Hip Hop grow. Watching the first inklings, from afar, was fascinating; the new moves, styles, raps, listening to bloc parties on cassette tape(bejaysus!!) and feeling a part of it and watching our own scene develop and great cross city popping and breaking battles.

Was especially proud of our Manc crew 'Broken Glass'(such a great name!) become famous in Europe (they trained down the road from me!) and me getting into the juniors!

I would live that live again as it was the happiest period for me!
