Hitch hikers / Hitch hiking

Hitched hiked all over the place in the 80's. Only ever had one problem.... got to J19 of the M6 at Knutsford and a bloke pulled over.... Freddie Mercury tache.... I asked how far he was going and he replied ''how far do you want to go?'' as he stroked my erection under my jeans.... I gave him a kiss....

hitched around Europe twice in the 70`s, was one of the best things I ever did, used to hitch up to wigan casino on a sturday and could be found most sats at a motorway junction or services with city scarf trying to get to the city games . met some really great people. you see lots of hitchers here, and it is not unusual to see 2 bikini clad girls with surfboards hitching. picked up loads of people in costa rica and panama as its still a common thing there. met some strange fuckers though!

Surprised nobody has told the hitchhiker story about the man with the secretive bag

Used to hitch a lot - just for the fun of it, to see the country, staying in youth hostels.

Did Glasgow by train then hitched to Aberdeen to see City in a pre-season friendly (67?), back next day, then train home then hitched to see us at Walsall (evening game), and afterwards ended up hitching in the dark, pre M6, got as far as Rugeley and slept in a crashed car behind a garage.

Then on the coach to Newcastle in 68, we passed a City fan on crutches thumbing a lift (on the A1 somewhere I think).

A mate of mine did it for 3 months last summer.
All around the UK.
All he took was a pop up tent , sleeping bag ,cash and a set of golf clubs.
Said he got lifts in no time and just went wherever they were going.
He is fucking crackers tho.

Once picked one up about 6 months after i passed my test nearly 25 years ago. Ended up threatening me and nicking my aftershave and he was wearing a celtic top. I have never been as scared in my life. Made me drive about 6 junctions further than i wanted. He will almost certainly be dead now. Good.

Lesson learnt.

@Magicpole was haunting you then it seems....

Hitchhiked around Europe when I was 20.
Never really struggled to get a lift.
People stopped picking them up after the release of the Rutger Hauer film The Hitcher.
I still pick them up.
Mainly lads with trade plates these days.
But you still get the odd loony.
Picked up a white witch once.
She was feeling my head as I drove and harping on about my aura ??????
Once picked up 2 theology students at Lymm.
Wouldn't shut up about God and I eventually threw them out at South Mimms.
Mainly nice folk tho.

Can’t believe you’re complaining about getting a wank off a witch!!

You can't just leave it at that! Tell me more, tell me more....

It sounds like a song from Greece!!

Been watching a guy called hitch_live on twitch for the last five months hitch-hiked is way trough all 50 states in the US he only seen 2 other hitch-hikers on his trip so it is dying out. He is back in canada now(where hes from) hitching with his "friend" emily at the moment. He hitched all round the world trough 25 countries but the US trip was the first he live streamed, he's planing a euro trip soon so check out his channel.
As for me, never hitched but picked a few up in the old works transit van as the front seats was full they had sit the back with smelly empty paint tins as drums of thinners it stunk but they never moaned

Do hitch hikers still exist??!!

Me and a mate got talking a couple of days ago that in the 70's/80's they seemed to be everywhere, standing on the sides of motorways, main roads etc. with their badly written cardboard destinations.

You very rarely see one now (unless I'm mistaken)

Do they exist??
How many Bluemooners have hitch hiked over the years for City trips or just in general??

Way back, when some smart arse politician told the unemployed to 'get on their bikes' i listened. I didn't have a bike so i stuck my thumb out at J17 to see where it would take me. Ended up in Mykonos labouring for a builder.
