Hitler's Berghof.

The wife and I spent our second wedding anniversary in what was then the intercontinental hotel in Berchtesgaden, which is now a Kempinski, but was originally the location of Hermann Göring’s house. It was 5 minutes walk from the Documentation centre and the bus station to the Eagles nest. We wouldn’t be able to stay there now, but back then we got a week on Holiday inn loyalty points. We went back a few years later staying self catering in the middle of Berchtesgaden which was much more affordable and we would recommend it to anyone. The history of the place is tangible, but be prepared for tears if you visit the documentation centre as some of that is heart rending. The views from the Eagle’s nest are amazing, and the beer and sausages up there while you take in the scenery really top off the visit. Berchtesgaden is well worth the visit for the Bavarian atmosphere even if the Nazi history isn’t your bag, and Königsee lake and mount Jenner are the sort of alpine experience that everybody needs to do at least once.
