HMS Ocean to be scrapped

So - although it went completely without a mention in yesterdays " comprehensive" defence spending review its been slipped out today that the Royal Navy flagship HMS Ocean is being scrapped at the end of 2017 despite being given a £65m refit only last year.
Shows exactly how the "extra" spending announced yesterday is really being financed. This lot are fucking charlatans - defence of the realm my arse - they are fucking us over big time all for ideological "small state" wishes and the absolute imperative to deliver tax cuts in their election wish list
 
Eh, how old is it? I thought Ocean was one of the decent bits of kit.

Its an old and obvious gag but why is a fly called a fly? I mean thats a shit name too. Every mammal could be called a walk or a run or a hop - that would be pretty confusing though I suppose- and careful when you go in the sea - you may see a swim !!

And why is our sun called 'the sun' and our moon called 'the moon'?
 
I sailed on her in 2000 whilst serving with 42 commando, I'm really surprised by this news because she is classed as a modern ship and I would have thought this will significantly reduce the commando brigades capability.
 
And remember the painful destruction five years ago of 9 fully and part-refurbished Nimrod maritime patrol aircraft, with cutting edge submarine detection systems married to the latest weapons tech. Leading on to the loss of many specialist jobs and the closure of BAe Woodford. At the same time Russia accelerated it's own submarine building programme (the fruits of which now bimble around the west coast of Scotland unworried by any interference from us)

We've been borrowing the French patrol aircraft since this blind ludicrous policy spunked up by gorgeous George and his clueless cronies as part of his "we're all this together" spiel....

And now we're buying American planes, inferior to the Nimrod in nearly every way, so costing the tax payer more billions, while safeguarding jobs in, er, America...

It beggars belief...
 
what do you expect from this bunch of clueless wankers - what galls me is they profess to be defending the nation and rebalancing the economy. So far from what I see here they are failing in the first part and rebalancing another countries economy. One reason they can't re-equip using British suppliers is because they effectively closed them all down - they make me so fucking angry
 
The price of everything and the value of nothing. That's a Tory issue, always has been.

They gave all our Harriers a multimillion pound update just before the 2010 review

Then sold them all to the Yanks for " pence."

To be absolutely fair I'd say with post war Tory PM's this applies to Tories after the 2nd Thatcher win - I think the big bang, right to buy all that shite they became the greedy party - don't think Churchill - Eden - Douglas Hume - Heath could be tarred with the same brush
 
£65m is a drop in the ocean for 3 additional years of service. No pun intended. The cost of building new war ships is billions.
