I remember many years ago in the first match at Maine Road after one of our promotions we played Chelsea at home.
We played them off the park with about 80% possession.
Chelsea had just 4 shots.
We lost 4-0.
Osgood was brilliant that day and I realised that possession counts for nothing if you do nowt with it.

City last night were dominating and if we gave MoM awards to the away team then their keeper should have got it. He and the woodwork were the reason it was 0-0 at HT.
It was always a question of when not if!

We let them play in the first 25 mins which was disappointing, against a better team we could have been punished. After that, we upped the tempo and work rate, started to press the ball in numbers and in truth they couldn't get out of their own half. Overall, a very good performance, but especially at home we are going to need to get after teams straight from the off.

Talksport on the other hand have been giving us rave reviews. Adrian Durham on twitter dishes it out to jelous fans. He has really given us his full backing on the radio too this year. Even Raggie Irani was complimenting us this morning.

If , at the end of the day , Hoddle reckons Swansea , by all their possession , deserved a point , then he's a voice alone ....... even Swansea fans , on theirs , and our forums , have admitted they were outplayed and haven't argued with the fact that City won ... although one or two have said that maybe the gulf in the result was possibly a bit 'unjust' to them.

We have to start matching the tempo and intensity or better teams could blow us away first 20. Remember Everton? Well I´m over on the 24th Sept. and I want to see us at them fookers like mad dogs from the off. This languid approach or attitude has to stop if we are to be considered title contenders

Swansea had a lot of possession early on but absolutely zero penetration, that is hardly dominating a half, it's like being in a bedroom with a woman for half an hour, doing absolutely nothing then telling your mates you "nailed her", something I can imagine Hoddle doing quite a few times

As has been said on here, for the first 20 mins we were a little shy. But at no point were we ever outplayed. We bossed the final 20 mins of the first half and could have been 3 up. And until we were 3-0 up I can only remember them having one effort on goal - a deflected long range effort that Joey did well to get to.
I don't think Hoddle was attacking City though, and I think he made an interesting point about the players not pressing enough in the CS. When we started to do that v Swansea after 20 mins there was only one team going to win.

I'm down from Scotland with the family for this game so I don't want a repeat of the first 25mins. We were murder. I'll take the show we put on after that though any day so more of the same City please....just do it from the off not half way through!

How this twat still has a platform is beyond me but he's not a million miles of with how the first half went, they looked a pretty decent side and it took us a while to get going, they're like West Brom from a few seasons back nice to watch but no cutting edge.

Having said that Hoddle did have a point about not knowing what system we were supposed to be playing but I think that is EXACTLY the point.... neither do the opposition know what system we're playing and that is because our players were rotating all over the place in a fluid formation.
This isn't by accident, it's by design and very similar to how Barca play. Obviously Barca are the pass masters of this and it's in their DNA from the juniors right through to the senior side. Mancini has only been here for 18 months and in that time the squad has evolved immensely, so given time and the right interchangeable players to execute this system (Mata, Sneijder & Nasri), the likes of Hoddle et al will soon understand what our system is about.
All we need to do now is to stop starting so slowly in games, to be more compact and defend and attack as a unit and not leave so much space in between the players and I've not doubt in my mind we'll become a devastating force in the next few years.
^^This^^............ I recall a similar thing happening to us when Joe Royal took us up to the Premiership. A Fair analysis might be that swansea for the first 20 mins had control of the ball but yet city had control of the game. They had bags of possesion but much of it was in their own half and when they got in to the final third did nout with it. I don't think anybody can cay they outplayed us when Graham was anonymous and something like ten times as many shots. What Hoddle said about City fans being disappointed should apply to spurs (FFT seem to think so as well) they are capable of passing the ball about well, but too often resort to long ball tactics and waste the creative abilites of Modric and VDV. A 4-5-1 with a decent striker would work much better but Redknapp is numbty without a clue, and as for hoddle he's shown why he is where is today, the complete unter **** of a man.
agreed it was slow in the first half, we were getting caught on the ball in midfield and a few displaced passes, but the main point is the amount possession we had in front of their packed defence, we all knew as soon as the first goal went in it would be party time, but guys like hoddle have got to realise it was the first game of the season also for the last 30 minutes we had three league debutants on the pitch, yes glen we have not forgotten you we know you are still alive and kicking, but to use city and make a ridiculous controversial statement to get a future spot on the tv or radio is desperate to say the least?
