Holding of Haaland

Hojland on Hallind in the area WWE style = No penalty.

Haaland firm but fair tackle on Slab Head = Free kick to the Rag's.

If any defender held on to an opposition like that on the halfway line and prevented them from making a run, they be penalised and likely yellow carded, yet somehow the threshold for what constitutes a foul is governed by an 18x44ft rectangle.

Make it make sense.

Do you remember Sterling being the first to be penalised for holding at Stoke when new rules were introduced? The clamp down soon disappeared. It's just getting worse.

Funny thing though, Erling was penalised a little later for the slightest of pushes on a rag.
Yep,I remember that mate, and even though it went against us,I thought at the time that it was a pointer to the fact that refs were at last applying the letter of the law.Needless to say,I was wrong.

The persistent holding annoys me too. I have sent an email to the FA asking them the following question. No doubt they will ignore it, but you never know.

--------

Good morning, I have watched football for many years and have noticed that the amount of foul play from defenders in the penalty box towards attacking players is getting worse and most of the time referees do not seem to upholding the laws of the game. The evidence suggests that referees are turning a blind eye to the persistent pushing, pulling and holding of attacking players that takes place on every corner/free kick on the edge of the box.

When are referees going to start implementing the laws of the game? Football is fast becoming a sterile and highly defence oriented sport and its not helped by referees continually favouring the defending team on set pieces.

I look forward to hearing from you.
