Hole in the Heart

Depends how big it is mate!

Eldest daughter diagnosed with one from birth now nearly 18

Its only small no proceedure required just annual check ups and now doesnt need that!

Competed for Wales in swimming running and tri and never had a problem.

If the hole is abit bigger they can "patch" it by passing a tube up the vein in your groin into the heart and then removing the tube. This is quite a common proceedure.

My youngest daughters condition is alot more complicated however and is treated with medication.

Goodluck Soulboy hope its not too serious but place your faith in the experts because they really do know what they are doing and have been a great help to our family!

I have been told that it is large.

I am going for another exporatory op in a couple of week's time and they're deciding then what they need to do.

They're still hoping I can have the "easy" opreration of going through the groin and patching over the hole... but if not, then its open heart and missing City for about 3 months!

But I have been cheered up that I may be worrying unnecessarily.

But if I die I'm coming back to haunt this fuckin' board!

How old are you Soulboy?

They picked up our daughters holes in hearts small and big at a very early age!

Would of thought they would have with you unless you are of the older generation and then due to your health if you had a large hole then i thought it would have been picked up!

Anyway hope they can do the patch for you as our youngest has undergone that proceedure (same but not having the patch) twice once at 18 months and then last summer at 15 with no ill effects!

If it is the open heart one then again goodluck was in the same ward as children having these ops with our youngest the first time and it was remarkable how brave and quick these kids recovered and that was 15 years ago!!

Glad you can see the funny side but understand your worry but always remember there is always someone worse off than you!

Without getting too morbid, is there anyone out there in City cyberspace who has had a hole in the heart or knows someone who has had?

After a few years of going for tests I've just recently been diagnosed with the condition and I'm expecting to go back into Wythenshawe soon to get it sorted.

Anyone give me news that will cheer me up... or scare the shite out of me!?
was born with a small hole in mine mate(heart)! got through it as a baby an had to have annual check ups at st mary's til i was about 13... smoked and drank like a trooper since the age of 16 and i'm still ere!!! chin up lad...

I have suffered from this condition since birth.

I had a minor operation when i was about 18 months to open a valve to my heart and the doctors thought i may have to have the OP again when i was 16.

I'm now 27 and its never affected me and i didn't have to have another OP!

I have an active work life, working for the ambulance service, and social life, playing many different sports.

So in my case i've been fine but I can't speak for everyone.

i had a hole in my heart from birth and had to go to annual check ups since birth. on my last visit they could not find the hole on the scan, so i had to have the bubble test and the results from that were the all clear. you can lead a normal life as i did for the past 16 years.
