How many gay footballers in the PL have you heard of?
None. How many have you heard of?
How many gay footballers in the PL have you heard of?
No, it really isn’t at all.Yes it is.
"I know what it's like to be gay. I grew up being told I was a Nottingham Forest fan all my life. Got brought to games by my dad. Sang the songs. But all throughout my childhood there was an uncomfortable feeling that I didn't belong. Then one day when I was about 12, I saw David Beckham on the TV and it did things to me. It was like an awakening. I realised at that moment that I'd been a Man Utd fan all along."Turns out Goldbridge has a view; anyone want to guess what it is?
Well that’s the point. If homophobia is not a big deal, then there would have been a lot of pl footballers coming out. The fact they haven’t is precisely why the support for LGBT community is so crucial.None. How many have you heard of?
You should have the right to not partake in an overt (ie visual) display of something you may not agree with, or are uncomfortable with the nature of being forced to do something outside your expected remit of being a footballer playing for a club.
People should be free to draw their own conclusions on the application by an individual of those rights.
However…
Scrawling ‘Jesus loves you’ on the symbol, is an admission that you are a hypocrite, perfectly willing to do your own overt display in reaction to another overt display.
I imagine he's probably employed to play football and on the basis he does that to a good level. A bit short sighted maybe.Everyone does have the right to not partake in the rainbow laces campaign, Samuel Morsy did just that and has received 1% of the coverage Guehi has got.
The problem for Guehi as I see it is that he's shown himself completely unsuitable to be Palace's captain.
He's too cowardly to not wear the armband and face any backlash.
He's too cowardly to admit he's against the rainbow laces campaign when asked what his ambiguous message meant.
He's treated the whole thing like a joke when asked to clarify and clearly thought he was being really clever by wearing the armband but writing an anti LGBTQ+ comment on it.
His dad has come out and told everyone Marc doesn't believe in the equality and inclusion of LGBTQ+ people, so as Andy Brassell explained so well on the clip poster earlier he's not fit to be the official representative of a club who is trying to promote those things. Either the club is supporting Stonewall's campaign or it's not, and you can't really claim to support it while being lead by someone who's against it.
And again, who wants their club lead by a grown man who has his father do the talking for him because he's not prepared to own his personal convictions?

It would be an easy enough thing to write into new contracts that the wearing of rainbow stuff is mandatory.
