Homophobia

I've not time to read the whole thread but when these threads crop up I usually post a link to the research showing that those blokes who are most homophobic are the ones most turned on by gay porn, i.e closets.

Homosexuality doesn't make sense to me from an evolutionary standpoint.

Man and women fit together by the bodies to make one!

That butt whole shite is unnatural and quite frankly repulsive to think about.

Absolutely fine with me, but they shouldn't be allowed to adopt children.

Don't you think being adopted by a same sex couple who actually want to be your new parents is better than being brought up in care homes by people who have no real feelings for you, and who go home to their own families at the end of their shift?

I understand your point, but how will it affect the child in the long run? Its a minefield that could potentially do more damage than good.

As someone who works with 120 foster and adoption agencies, with 17 years of data... I would like to point out that whatever your beliefs are.. The foster children placed with gay couples exhibit no different outcomes than those placed with straight couples. Every social worker I know, and I know well over 500, would say that gay couples not only make fantastic parents, but that gay couples are essential to the system. Because gay couples are taking the kids no one else will take. They don't care as much about the image of wanting a child who looks like them or is healthy and white. The gay couples take on more kids with disabilities and more kids with deformities. If you care about neglected and abused children, then you have to take a pro gay parent position.

17 years of data you say.. Is that enough to see the cause and effect?

I hear the arguements. Of course a child should not be but with families who will not care for them, that is adsurd, but would the child choose to be with gay parents?

I see homophobia as a remnant of a time when Europe was all about religion. Along with insecure idiots keeping it alive today. I wonder if attitudes are changing all that much though, I guess they are but when I was in school the worst thing you could be was gay, and everyone joked about gay people (very often with no substance behind it, we didn't really have anything against gay people but classmates who turned out to be gay must have felt awful I suppose) - and I can't really imagine that not happening at all in schools today, especially with all the immigrants we have now who come from countries where being gay is still punishable.

I still find the profanity helpful though. :) I think it was Louis CK who explained that a faggot isn't a gay person, it's just someone being a faggot.

-- Sat Jul 27, 2013 1:56 pm --

Well you see this in America all the time. Some semi-public figure screaming about how unnatural it is until they get caught in a public toilet in the middle of the night.
