Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

I remember the Spurs game when we beat them 5-0 & relegated them. Didn't they arrive late & came in the top of the Kippax before being chased back down the steps?
I was stood in the fenced off away section that the Police allowed us to use as Spurs were bringing no fans apparently with it being a meaningless end of season game.
I looked down the bottom at the turnstiles & just new there were 50-70 Spurs congregating.
Suddenly they charged up the stairs & into this section which had plenty of room in fairness.
Order was very quickly restored by the Kippax after the initial shock & they were chased back down to be protected by the Police at the bottom before relocation through the Platt Lane gate in the corner !

Would that be the original Denmark?
Plenty of away fans come unstuck around Denmark Rd in them days.
A load of Chelsea found out near the Old Abbey after that Friday night game iirc!
Yes, there was a huge patch of wasteland just after it on the Hulme side. I didn't see what had happened but there were frequent ambushes on away fans there.

There was even the odd little incident after they built a science park on that ground.
The Rags got a hiding there in the early 2000s. Industrial fireworks were used initially as shock and awe tactics and then they got a battering.

I was never part of that scene but attending matches home and away with mates from starting work at 16 in 1970 I saw all sorts.

yeah......but we chased them to the top and was scrapping all game with a few dibble trying to stop us with barriers between us. They (police) said they thought no one was coming as it was about 5 past 3 when they (spurs) stormed in the away section from the stairs at the top but we were already there. May 1977 cue mayhem.

Yes, that’s what I was referring to. Was a lively day all round.

That was probably just about the peak period of the post Hillsborough hooly reboot, if you like.
