Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Is it just me but I only really remember violence at away grounds ? It just felt the norm at home

At home everyone knew the areas to avoid and we were in the majority. If you kept your wits about you and just went home most of the time you were okay. Away was the opposite of all that.

Yep, Cold Blow Lane was a daunting place to visit , and you never felt comfortable there , narrow streets, dodgy characters hanging around in groups, i remember them attacking a City coach before one game there and bricking its windows .... we walked to the ground from New Cross Station, and even though there were a few hundered of us, flanked by coppers, you always felt a bit uneasy and were always looking over your shoulders!

Is that City mate?

Yeah they came in late at around 3.15

Cops had let us in their segregated bit and when they came up the steps into the kippax it was mayhem all game ... cops quickly put portable barriers up between us .... the side streets after the game was mental and spurs were well game

Bloody hell I had forgotten this one it was a good un.

Yes mate I remember it well first visit there for years I got the special down had a escort to the ground but mf and the guvnor’s did there own thing they had a coach parked up at Piccadilly approach in the morning asking for recruits .. I abstained .

surprised the Liverpool league cup semi final in 81 hasn’t had more of a mention. I was only 12 but Fuck me after that game I hadn’t seen anything like that before. There were hundreds of City lads going after anything that smelt like a scouser. I believe a fair few had to lock themselves inside shops for their own safety. That was after the Alf Grey shit decision.

Yeah , they were previously ciculating leaflets in the kippax asking for 'recruits' who 'wouldn't run' .... rumour has it that they had a 'run in' with Millwall near London Bridge.
