Same here mate , sadly for a mid fifties bloke i still like stuff we wore in eighties and lean to it every time I go for some new gear. Hurleys sport was superb got my first Pringle tops and a tacchini tracky top amongst others from that place.

You could -as for the most part nobody wore colours etc -save for maybe a tiny Lapel Badge but you had to have your wits about you and if you got a bad vibe at some place you just didn’t go inI’m just about old enough to go to some of the mad games like Everton in League Cup in 87 or when City fans dismantled Boundary Park. But I was only aged around 10 at the time. But I’ve got a question. Could a normal fan who didn’t want to get involved in aggro fan just go to a pub in the city centre or near the ground and mix with the home fans in those days or was it head down in and out job?
Saw the remnants of Burnley’s mob staggering across and up Grandale Street. They’d been blitzed shortly before.Speaking of Burnley, does anyone remember the match at Maine Road in 1998? Ended in a 2-2 draw. Like others, I wasn't involved in the FV scene but what I saw after the match that day walking down Claremont Road was quite funny. The police stopped City fans at one of the junctions to allow some of Burnley's mob to walk past onto a side street. It was a bit of a weird scene as they didn't appear to have a police escort as such. Numbers I don't think were too big - maybe about 50 or so - but once they went down the side street they swung a right then another right so were heading back up towards Claremont Road at the next junction. Loads of City sussed what was going on and legged it to the next junction and started heading down towards the oncoming Burnley mob. I was just stood at the top of the road and observing (like you do!). I have to say that Burnley were outnumbered but I don't think there were many City hooligans in there - it was more scarfers and giddy hangers on. So both mobs walked towards each other. Plenty of Burnley had their hands out giving it the old come on. Next minute the charge went up from City and all of a sudden Burnley completely folded, turned round, and ran off. I was stood at the top of the road pissing my sides laughing. I heard later that Burnley fans were hiding in gardens and knocking on doors begging to be let in. How true that is I don't know but it was a funny incident. One lad I knew who is as far removed from that kind of thing as you can get told me he was part of the mob that ran Burnley that day!
I’m mid 60s and still wear Lacoste, Tacchini, Ellesse & Fila. Also Boss Jeans and Polo shirt if going somewhere a bit posher. Actually reading this with my Lacoste glasses on !!It’s funny, you go on the Lacoste website and all the models are young, hip kids. Same with the staff in store. Yet virtually everyone you ever see wearing it are middle aged, normally overweight blokes.

Was at the Hull game in 88 in a van full of city and for some strange reason a couple of Sheff united fans who held a dislike for Hull. Soon as van was parked they charged a group of Hull fans and the police had the dogs on them. Remember Chelsea turning up at the Brentford game as am sure they sent one or two lads to goad city whilst waiting in ambush round a corner. Still have a small scar above my eyebrow from the trip to Hull from a full beer can I spotted too late.You could never go away open minded always had to be on your toes, Brentford away fa cup we got beat 3-1 I think years ago that was a bad time for me and lads again Chelsea turned out, Swindon away in the car park outside the mainstand had it’s moments, Hull away first game of the season is another what goes under the radar, quite a few more aways where we’ve been surprised . Everton at main road have brought some mobs in their time, never forget what we took there though in 85 league cup ( I think) . Proper turn out .
