rag central the blue part.
A customer of mine who works in hospital administration has told me he is getting a verbal warning for taking time off work through illness.

He had had a serious stomach bug which caused sickness and diarrhea, that severely that he was rushed to hospital. while in there he slipped and broke his collarbone.

While in hospital he was told that he would have to attend a meeting to receive a verbal warning.

His total time off work was 6 weeks.

This sounds hard to believe but could it be possible, he has worked there for 12 years without having time off before.

The NHS are cutting down massively on the workforce taking the piss, my gf works in a hospital in an admin job also and quite often they have over half the staff in there department off with various 'illnesses', the same people are thick enough to then post pics on Facebook, bragging about being on the piss at the weekend etc. 2 lasses have got potted in the last week because of it and they are seriously clamping down. She told me they have different sickness levels though and unless you are persistenty having time off you should be left alone... Is your mate a sicknote?

so a broken collarbone means 6 weeks off work for someone working in administration?

First time on the sick when told on the phone he would have to come in to the hospital for a verbal warning he said if they wanted they could come and see for themself as he was on one of their wards.

It'll be a procedure they have to follow, and yes it is correct you can be disciplined for it, failure to fulfill your contract. If it's a one off so to speak, nothing to worry about, take the verbal and move on. It's the lazy feckers they are afte,r same where I work, 6 months on the sick with full pay and back in work when it goes to half pay.

That shouldn't happen as you should be invited in for a chat about your sickness then maybe invited to an investigation meeting and then a disciplinary hearing, is your friend in a Union?

you would have to ask how many periods of sickness he has had, some employers only allow so many before they start disciplinary procedure

Apparently the NHS are also having a big clampdown on Radio 1 DJ's bumming the deceased, and just being on TOTP is now no guarantee that you can have your own key to the mortuary.

I work in a hospital and the protocol regarding sickness is a bit daft and needs a review and complete overhaul. There are always people off sick with "stress" in our department. They aren't stressed, they've just been asked to do a little more and can't be bothered. Some of them even say "I've had enough of ... I'm going off on the sick for a few weeks." In that time they carry on their life as normal and enjoy a break away from work. When they return their workload is reduced to help ease them back into a routine.

We're making quite large cuts throughout our trust and I could happily sack off plenty of people in plenty of departments who contribute absolutely nothing to the hospital or the care of patients. Unfortunately, it just isn't that easy.
