The wife is treating me to a long weekend in manchester and the wolves game,she has booked the whole works,meal in the citizens suite,half time refreshments,all that sort of thing.Anyway she has booked us into a hotel called the Brittania sachs,which is a few minutes from the ground,i looked at some reviews on the booking site and to be honest their a bit mixed,has anyone on hear any first hand expierence of this hotel ? if there's any bad news about it i would be greatful to know A.S.A.P so i can change the booking to somewhere else (i would be greatful for any recomendations) Thanks.

Whenever I travel over for a game, I usually drop anchor in the Britannia on Portland Street. It's about a 90 second walk from Piccadilly Gardens, and a 10 minute bus ride to the ground. Around £70 for two nights usually. Different hotel to the one you're staying in, I think. As for the reviews, I wouldn't normally take too much notice of them. The only time I'm in the hotel is to get some kip anyway. Never had any problems with the one I use.

Thanks jimharri,i might just check out the one in portland street.

A friend stayed there the other week and was also a little worried about the reviews, but were quite happy with it for the price paid, If you want somewhere clean and central you'll be fine, if you want luxury you'll have to pay for it.

Here's an exampled;
Checking in on the friday afternoon, and checking out on sunday morning;
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/britannia-manchester.html?tab=1&error_url=%2Fhotel%2Fgb%2Fbritannia-manchester.html%3Faid%3D311076%3Blabel%3Dhotel-102700-gb-Ng4BFmGBohbvKkQqbycmjwS752500404%3Bsid%3Da6752a574ee25c4db83112b1c352675c%3B&do_availability_check=on&aid=311076&label=hotel-102700-gb-Ng4BFmGBohbvKkQqbycmjwS752500404&sid=a6752a574ee25c4db83112b1c352675c&checkin_monthday=21&checkin_year_month=2009-8&checkout_monthday=23&checkout_year_month=2009-8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/britann ... nth=2009-8</a>

It's clean and comfortable. It isn't 5 star luxury but as bluesmith said; if you want luxury, then you have to pay for it.

I can't really see there being too much difference in either of the Britannia hotels in the city centre ......... both are pretty much around the same distance to both Piccadilly and COMS , and the prices seem pretty similar ....... the Britannia hotel itself on Portland Street , or Sachas Britannia hotel on Tibb Street , should do you just fine for a short stay.

They should both provide adequate rooms and facilities ...... although obviously not on a par with say the Lowry Hotel , or Radisson , which are at the forefront of the Manchester hotels.

Got to agree with JGD mate Sachas isn't all that good. I have stayed at all the above hotels and if breakfast is inc at the City inn I'd go for that (the breakfast is top notch) if not Crown plaza is next best option imv (for value for money that is, the Raddisson is the dogs with a great cocktail bar next to reception) check the breakfast options as you could end up paying around £20 per day extra for breakfast. The prices offered look pretty good to me mate
