Sorry if this already exists. I know there is one on travel routes, but good to have a thread specific to hotels and neighbourhoods people are staying.
Sure many are familiar with Istanbul, but for those of us not it would be good to know we are nearby plenty others. I know Karem (?) has provided some advice on areas.

So, please share where you are staying - either neighbourhood, or hotel, or both. Sure it will help others when choosing where to stay, as Istanbul is enormous!

Fatih for me and despite some saying its not a good area found this video which is only a month old and looks more than alright and certainly an upgrade on wandering round Beswick on a match day!

It’s the most popular area for tourists in Istanbul. It will be fine.

One of our lads has booked 16 of us onto a Fatih £30.00 bar crawl, including all drinks, on the Friday night.
Could get very messy.

Taksim square for me. Seems like it's going to be the most popular area for blues. Looks like it is the destination for shuttle bus drop offs too. Plenty of bars and shops around for all your needs and seems like there's still plenty of cheap and cheerful hotels available. I booked in at Simon hotel, genuinely picked it amongst the plethora of similar basic but cheap hotel rooms purely because it's a name I can remember and pronounce even if I'm heavily intoxicated.

Might avoid if the Italians descend there as well
Thin line between banter and mither
