The Blue Buus... is callin us... Driver, where you
Just the other day I was thinking about how many 'greatest teams' City have developed and this one is right on the verge being another amazing team!

If I'm honest I'm blown away about how many 'perfect storms' the club has created for our teams to be constantly on the verge of greatness.

So, I guess my question is since there are many factors going into what happens, what's the leading one...?

The directors' ability to plot a pathway for the team and player?

The player's belief in his own ability coming through?

The manager's ability to get a player to 'believe'?

The fact it happens so often can't be coincidence, but I can't get my head around what's different about an amazing team built on potential and not 'galacticos'.

Or are we 'Galacticos', really...?

All I know is it’s exciting as fuck. Moving that Lego-headed **** out to Munich has proved to be genius. Shifting Stones into midfield equally so. It’s completely changed us and has put us in this position to clean sweep, bar the cup Kellogg’s won.

I cant wait for the next game as soon as the last one ended. We are the best team in Europe bar none. And those fearing Vini Jnr? Fuck him.

It starts from day one the plans and ideas the focus on doing everything right, then the building Academy and always focusing on getting the manager we wanted.
People will always throw "Oil money" at us some tongue in cheek some with jeaulosy, it matters not and is part of the focus, yes we have money but it's not all about that. it's how you spend what you have and how you eventually become self sufficent and we have.
I believe we have the best owner in the world but for me Khaldoon is a Legend what a man what a mind he drives everyone forward.
Long may this continue.

The very top people are the very best, and with their resources they ensure that they get the best available appointment for every position. They create the best environment and it builds on itself - success breeding success.
I almost have to pinch myself when I see how good this present team is. It seems, at times, that I should be more religious but then, I just give my head a wobble and remember that Pep is the God of football; he's with us, and all is good. Long may it continue. Amen.

A combination of world class people making decisions and the best manager being in charge. No short term panic it is all a long term plan executed to perfection. You can guarantee Pep would have wanted a left back, he didn't get a proven one so he experimented, worked on different systems and created a solution.

With a world cup mid season, a squad going for three titles in a row and some high profile exits in the summer/Jan the fact we are still competing in all three main competitions and could win them all shows just how incredible Pep is. He is the critical factor but helped by a board that knows it and trusts him.

We have built arguably the best platform for a manager to succeed: support, facilities, money of course for players.

We then have hired the best manager in the game. Pep recognises how great that support network is around him hence why he’s stayed so long in my opinion.

He’s then built multiple teams. Not a group of players. Teams.

Our whole setup from the youth teams to the women’s to the senior men’s plays with a similar DNA. Possession based attacking football.

The system doesn’t change - yes it’s tweaked - but the fundamentals stay the same. We buy players to fit a system but are equally flexible enough that when a once in a lifetime player comes along like Haaland our brilliant manager tweaks the system to fit them in.

We simply have some of the best people in football running our club. That’s why we are so successful.

The club is the sum of its parts,

We have great people operating, managing and playing for the club.

It’s that simple, talented individuals that form a fantastic family like atmosphere around the club and players that are world class at what they do, creating an extremely strong work ethic and pride in what we want to achieve.

We hold no grudges, if you want to leave for whatever reason you can, with thanks no matter what your role. It creates a professional environment and allows others to feel like the club will treat its employees with respect and in turn that respect is reflected back.

It’s Team Work from top to bottom. And it helps that we employ the most talented people to create that team.

There's a saying that 'culture beats strategy' (or process) though it might be more accurate to say it drives and underpins the strategy. Either way the culture of the organisation is hugely important to it's success. Pep's systems only work because the club is able to convince multi-millionaires, many of whom have had their egos stroked from a young age to (a) recognise they don't know it all and stay in learnimg mode (b) work like dogs on the field (c) remain grounded and consider the greater team goal is the most important thing. Recruitment is a key part too, some people are just not suited to the culture of any given organisation.

When Pep gives interviews saying things like 'if you don't run, you sit on the bench next to me' the players know he means it. When he says you have to be 'brave' in how you play, the players know he means it. That is all about culture and behaviours rather than the system itself.

We are very well managed at multiple levels but a key part of this is the culture that has been fostered. Look at the swamp and what has passed for culture there in the last decade: entitlement, complacency, deference to sacred cows, lack of having each others backs or buying into a strategy. That culture gap is a big reason why City's investment has returned tenfold of the rags despite them chucking money about left right and centre.

So why can't others in the UK and Europe copy this model. Is it just about the people, our people are better?
The challenge will be when these people move on. Not just Pep but Soriana & Txixi, the Chairman, the COO, etc.
Top down we need serious succession planning better than any club or business has ever managed to achieve. That bit is scary. Recruitment of people is key.

It’s all about Pep once he leaves we will fall back into the pack

I should add the contributions of the fans as well.
The average City fan is very level headed. I think this helps the team morale during difficult periods.

It’s like with all talent, there’s only a finite number. It’s about forward planning. Making sure we have the next best lined up when Pep and the senior management do move on.

It’s also being savvy and smart enough to know who the future Pep is, who the future Txiki is etc. that’s the hard bit. We have the financial clout and appeal to entice them… just need to make sure we move quickly and decisively, which we have usually done.
