How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Didn't you notice getting your passport stamped and checked ? which is what 'seems' to be behind the queues. An artlicle not directly mentioning Brexit doesn't mean it isn't responsible.

Plus as you go through no security checks as you do at an airport ..... every page of your passport has to be looked at (yes all 50 0f them ) to make sure that you haven't been to any dodgy countries recently

You should also have noticed that it was considerably more expensive than it had been due to Eurostar now offering a much reduced service. And one of the reasons it cannot offer the level of service it once offered id down to the fact that the system cannot process the same numbers of people on account of the checking facilities. Therefore, a similar type of service can indeed be enjoyed, but I’m afraid the tax-free shopping benefits have to be set against the higher price paid, the restrictions in terms of travel times, and the novel inconvenience of passport control. Plus ça change, eh, plus ça change…

They are limiting to 2/3 of their old capacity to cope. If you MUST do that then clearly you have to put up prices to maintain a profitable service. I am afraid Breixteers continue to lie and disseminate rather than admit even the tiniest issue with Brexit

50 pages in 50 coach travellers passports on 50 coaches in the queue - checks we insisted upon. But its not Brexit and its those bloody French at fault

Not everyone will know the background and if they travel infrequently, then they might not appreciate the changes and their effects. Opinions are not necessarily deliberate positions, I guess.

Anyway, there wouldn’t be such queues if these wokerati teachers and parents weren’t so obsessed with taking children to France in the first place. They’re just hell bent on showing them first-hand how militancy is rewarded and filling their minds with useless declensions and the like. King Charles showed the way and boycotted the place, and if people paid heed and showed a little more patriotism by staying at home, this wouldn’t even be an issue. Anyway, thoughts with the…

If a leader of a political party came out and said. "Were out. We voted out. The nation's needs an adult conversation. Rather than deny conversation, we need to open it up to move this country forward and together move the nation forward into prosperity."

They might get support at the next election to do so.

So you’ll agree that the article didn’t blame Brexit at all and, as such, the tweet you posted which blamed it on Brexit was utter horseshit on behalf of the tweet author.

Agree on these channel queues seeming to have something to do with Brexit and extra checks from what I understand. I was in France a couple of weeks ago, first time I’d used the eurostar since the Brexit deal and absolutely no issues getting in or out - didn’t notice any difference between before or after - accept I now had tax free shopping… was very enjoyable.

Oh, bless.

I‘ll explain it. As with all supply chains ie tomatoes recently or in this case queues at the Dover choke point, Brexit means there is less slack in the system because it imposes barriers and the more barriers you have the greater the chance the chain or queue will collapse when put under pressure.

To recap. Brexit is a barrier to the movement of goods, people and services. Once you understand this simple fact, you will save yourself the trouble of posting your travel blog of carefree jaunts to foreign lands - which is kind of dissing the school kids who had their Easter trip cancelled (thanks Brexit!).

They might, but they won’t. Tories can’t admit that it’s a dogs breakfast and Labour are not interested in getting dragged into a Brexit argument. Both main parties have to pretend that Brexit isn’t a factor, albeit for different reasons, which is why politicians sound like they have been huffing the laughing gas while they desperately avoid mentioning Brexit.

We are governed by children because we voted for a childish policy and for children to implement it.

Not just morons.

We (sort of) function as a representative democracy albeit one with a crappy voting system but every now and then we like to throw a hugely complicated decision out to a plebiscite vote that we are completely ill equipped to deal with (as evidenced by the chaos the simple majority vote has caused and the inability to even agree after the fact whether it was legally binding or not). What could possibly go wrong eh?

Please don’t let the facts get in the way of a brexiteer

It’s a very peculiar English problem. An unwillingness to have an adult conversation led to the problem and an unwillingness to have an adult conversation now just means everyone becomes poorer. Social awkwardness at its best.

I did read it and the point I am making its funny how a vibrant market that "led the world" has become a post Brexit backwater - I suppose like cross channel queues and staff shortages it all just coincidental where Brexit is concerned
Another interesting coincidence - or maybe not, is an amusing tale from the wacky world of high finance.
Having spotted the likelihood of brexit causing problems for their investing strategy ( actually mentioning in their prospectus, brexit as a ’risk’ to investment, and a cause of ‘considerable uncertainty’) a certain company opened an office in Dublin to avoid any obstruction to their money making wheezes and ensure continuing profits.
The founder of this co. was of course one Jacob Rees-Mogg who decided that brexit was a great idea, and we should all be grateful for it.
Of course he insisted that this had nothing to do with brexit, and I for one believe him!!

Poster C presents a straw man to trot out the party line on saying how bad Brexit is.

This thread is nothing but predictable.

The thread is predictable: It's a barrage of bad news which is directly caused by Brexit. This is because Brexit is a disaster. If there was any good news relating to Brexit then the thread would be full of the Brexit supporters crowing about it. But there is no good news so there are no posts like that.

This is not rocket science. There is no remainer/establishment/blob conspiracy. There's just a recession that's here to stay and no way out.

A recession that will in all likelihood become a depression.

I flew to Germany (Munich) 2 weeks ago and most of the problems are created by the European countries and what is either spiteful or just stupidly inefficient policies. You have to get a stamp on the way in and you'll queue dependent on staff, everyone else will use the automatic barriers.

On the return to the UK we had to queue for our stamp out and couldn't use the barriers like everyone else of any other country. Later they forced us into a massive queue at the gate to get a 'sticker' in our passport saying it'd been checked, I don't know what they check but that's 150 people in a queue for no reason.

There's no reason whatsoever for any of this actually. I flew to the US and Caribbean last year and I didn't need to get stamped out and I didn't need to queue to get my passport checked at the gate. So why does Germany insist on these checks specifically for UK passport holders/UK flights?

Note for city fans travelling, this whole process will probably be a pain in the arse in 3 weeks time. You will come back to the UK and wonder why EU nationals or anyone with a barometric passport can use our automatic barriers but you can't use theirs.... Go figure.
