How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Funny how Brits living abroad are expats whilst any foreigner living here is an immigrant.
British and particularly Englich exceptionalism at its' finest. An aquaintance of mine has lived in Cyprus for 20+ years, mainly because of the favourable tax situation there and so, for economic reasons. He voted for Brexit. Last time we met he was moaning about the number of economic migrants in Cyprus, mainly from Africa. He got really arsey when I questioned how he and they were significantly different.

I can think of a way they are likely to be different…

But it's the rich Russians in Cyprus that everyone hates (except the Cyprus government)

We're off to Thailand shortly and I understand there is a backlash from locals about the number there too. Fortunately the places we go are relatively unaffected at the moment.

Well, we could join the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention (immediately suppressed by Labour)

The government have been accused of being a bit duplicitous by some in the EU saying we want closer ties but immediately saying no to everything and anything.

PEM isn’t a huge step change but it does provide a signal we are open for sensible changes and would still allow British exporters to choose which origin rules they want to apply. I don’t see a downside in all honesty but obviously the government see it differently.

Best to rely on the whims of a madman in the States who, even if a FTA was agreed (and, of course, it won’t be), is likely to rip it up over some imagined slight one morning!

Comprehensize and extremely long report from UK in a Changing Europe on Brexit

My summary:
  • Big negative economic impact, particularly trade in goods
  • Big increase in immigration
  • Continued endless negotiation expected, which the UK continues to be bad at

In other words, the precise opposite of what was promised. So no surprises.
Sigh.

Your summary is misinformation. You can't summarise a big negative whole economic impact from a negative impact to trade in goods alone. Of course trade will be negatively affected but for a start 40-50% of our trade is not with Europe and a considerable amount of other trade is not even in goods.

Where is this big negative impact in either of the graphs below? I'd bloody love somebody to draw me a circle. I can see COVID very easily for example but I cannot see Brexit at all.
