The EU gave us free access to one of the biggest, richest markets in the world. Thatcher helped shape the Single Market, and it is arguably her most positive achievement.
We now no longer have access to that market except on Third Country terms with shit tons of bureaucracy and paperwork. How anyone thinks this is a Good Thing eludes me.
Anyway, the market is still there, and it must be tempting for companies that know they can export stuff to it to relocate to the EU.
But never mind, wave your Union Jacks and hum Rule Britannia. That will create loads of jobs and pay everyone's bills. Oh, sorry, it won't. Nationalism stirs emotion, but is a complete dead end. It's not as if we have vast natural resources. We don't, but we have a large population and we feed ourselves by trade.
But 52% knew exactly what they were voting for. So it's really no surprise to them. And some on here still can't admit they were mislead and chose the wrong box to tick. Even worse, they are thinking of inflicting the same load of shit on us again.
Some gloss on the stats as well. No blame attached to the Tories for the numbers of asylum seekers waiting a decision. No inquiry into why they allowed so many foreign students to change to work visas. And no real analysis as to why non-EU migration rose so rapidly after Brexit. But that is what @Oldham Exile advocated as being less racist than only having white Europeans with freedom of movement (before he exiled himself to Cyprus).
On June 23rd 2026, ten year anniversary, he needs to just go for it, nothing to lose imhoIf Labour and Starmer continue to be so unpopular leading up to the next election a cunning strategy might be to promise an early referendum on rejoining the EU thus completely outflanking Farage and chums given that all the polls now show a substantial majority in favour of rejoining.
How delicious would that be !
