How Do You Break The 'Sugar' habit?(addiction)

I've just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes so I am going through that very same process. So far it hasn't been a problem but then my family are also doing the same, so that has helped. I have also had to ditch salt because of high blood pressure that has been surprisingly easy. I was never one to diet or watch what I ate but the scare I have had has sorted that out. It has only been two weeks mind haha!
It can only benefit you so give it a good go!!

Has anyone done it?

Don't drink fizzy drinks.(just mineral water and fresh fruit juice)
Don't each sweets.
Only eat Chocolate every now and again as a treat.
Stopped eating crisps, even though I do like them.
Stopped eating biscuts bar the odd relapse when certain brands I like are on offer. Even then I think twice before buying them.
Problem 1. Still eat cakes. Can't have a cup of tea without a piece of cake, which is full of sugar.
Problem 2. Drink up to 5 cups of tea a day with 3 sugars. (don't drink Coffee)
I've tried cutting down on sugar in my tea, and tried drinking tea without any sugar, but have failed every time.
So, how do I mentally cut out the tea+cake breaks in work and at home, and reduce sugar in my tea and stick to it?
As you can see, I do have Sugar will power, but it doesn't stretch as far as a cup of tea and a piece of cake.
Yep.
The day the doc told my Dad he could keep smoking but had to give up sugar.
Easiest bit was cutting down to less than 1 sugar in a brew instead of the 3 i usually had.

I find that situational avoidance works best for me.

1. Don’t buy biscuits and cake/don’t have them in the house
2. Change your routine to avoid the urge to snack
3. Replace them with fruit/nut or healthy low sugar snack alternatives

I used to have 3 spoonfuls of sugar in my tea and found it easier to cut down to 2 and then 1…….I tried zero but could never get along without a bit of it in tea.

I drank a 2 litre bottle of full sugar coke every day for about 15 years.

Now have a can about once every 2 weeks.

Tried quite a few times in the past to give up but didn't have a strong enough 'why'

Will power is the only way. It's fucking hard though as sugar sneaks it's way into most processed foods
