How do you open a coconut?

I bought a coconut from the supermarket yesterday. I haven't got a clue what to do with it.

I'm thinking if i smash it with a hammer then the milk will go everywhere. Maybe drill a hole and suck the milk out? then smash it with a hammer or go through the middle of it with a woodsaw. It seemed like a good idea at the time..
