Always thought 'hone in' meant to get something progressively closer (to hone = to make sharper), whereas 'home in' means approaching a target like a missile. Similar but slightly different.You cannot hone in on anything ,home in certainly, it's creeping into mainstream use just like of did when it replaced have.Must mention "bias", almost always wrongly used on BM, "you're bias you are" FFS
