How far off Barcelona are we?

If wereplaying the same setup as them:

Hart/Valdes - Maybe in the future...

Boateng/Dani Alves - Nowhere near...
Kolo Touré/Puyol - Never...
Kompany/Pique - Just no...
Kolarov/Abidal - Close, but I need to see more of AK...

de Jong/Mascherano or Busquettes - Nope...
Yaya Touré/Iniesta - Not from what I've seen so far...
Barry or Milner/Xavi - No way...

Silva/Messi - LOL, actualy, he can't be THAT much better?
Balotelli/Pedro or Bojan - Don't know yet...
Tévez/Villa - Close...

I'd say were about as far apart as Eastlands and the Nou Camp, but if we carry on like were doing then were closing in rapidly!

;)

Don't know about that.

Hart/Valdes - Hart

Richards/Alves - Alves
Toure/Pique - Pique
Kompany/Puyol - Kompany by far
Kolarov/Abidal - Can't really judge, although Kolarov has made an impression

De Jong/Busquets - De Jong
Silva/Xavi - Xavi
Barry/Iniesta - Iniesta

Johnson/Messi - Messi
Villa/Tevez - Can't split them
Milner/Pedro - Pedro

Don't know about that.

Hart/Valdes - Hart(close).

Richards/Alves - Alves(yeah, but between fully fit boateng & alves, v.close)
Toure/Pique - Pique(yes)
Kompany/Puyol - Kompany by far(ridiculous im afraid, puyol is class).
Kolarov/Abidal - Can't really judge, although Kolarov has made an impression(yeah Kolarov, but I think Maxwell > Abidal).

De Jong/Busquets - De Jong(yeah).
Silva/Xavi - Xavi(yeah).
Barry/Iniesta - Iniesta(yeah obviously).

Johnson/Messi - Messi(even worth comparing PMSL?)
Villa/Tevez - Can't split them(hmmm...)
Milner/Pedro - Pedro
(swap Milner for Tevez and then we can have Tevez & Villa ;).

A couple of hours plane ride.

Oh you are talking about the standard. We are streets behind them to be honest. They have honours that we can only dream about at the moment, and all we have at the moment is the backing.

Let's not get too carried away jumping on the Barca bang wagon. They are for me the best side in europe, but were knocked out of last seasons Champions league by the same side that were comprehensively beaten off Spurs not so long ago. They never have and never would beat a top premier league side like they did Madrid tonight. For me they have two players who control the game and a genius who can pretty much do anything. So I would say we are a real world class midfielder of Xavi's level and a superman kind of player like Messi away from them. Now some might say lightyears but I would say more like a couple of years.

Barca are an incredible team but they aren't invincible, it's been shown how they can be beaten but it requires a defense of incredible discipline, something Mourinho puts as key, he got it spot on at Inter. Real lack a proper defensive midfielder of the quality of Cambiasso, Alonso for me although brilliant but he is no ball winning Cambiasso. Mourinho has yet to really put his mark on Madrid. Most of the team he inherited especially defensively is of the Pellegrini era and beyond. Madrid also aren't a team ready to win everything but were lacking a manager to take them there, they are a group of individuals of great skill but just lack any form of cohesion. They were soundly beaten last year by Lyon at home with a similar team that played Barcelona tonight.

Your right in that Xavi and Iniesta control games, the statistics show they are the core of that team, they provide all the playmaking, Busquets basically is their anchor distributing the ball where space can be exploited. Everything is basically clicked for them, Messi can be unstoppable a lot of the time but he can be nullified when restricted of space, Inter did it amazingly well. Mourinho once said that 5 disciplined and organized players can beat 10 disorganized one's and its completely right. Not saying Barca are disorganized but their weakness will always ironically be their attacking play. So that means to beat the best attacking side in the world, you funnily enough need the best defence..

A side like Spurs I think could give them problems with their direct play but at the Nou Camp they'd honestly get slaughtered, no-one setup like them can cope with the movement, their isn't enough players literally to track runs. The only way to really stop Barcelona is to get men behind the ball, soak up everything they throw at you and hit them on the break, Chelsea did it 2 years ago at the Nou Camp and got a 0-0 which was unheard of! They almost won the tie albeit a last minute Iniesta away goal at Stamford Bridge.

Spurs beat Inter this season but Inter lack a manager now who can get them going. Mourinho is a brilliant motivator and he got them fired up completely to win the Champions League, just look at the emotion at the end of last year's final, it meant a lot to them. To be honest i can't see any team that can stop Barcelona this year, the only man who knows how to effectively stop them got beat 5-0 tonight so.. hmm

Barcelona were stunning tonight, just unbelievable. The City team that beat Fulham is not miles away from the Barca team, but Fulham and Real Madrid are different opposition completely! What I would say is that for the biggest el clasico in years with the revival of Madrid, Barcelona were fantastic. The biggest Manchester derby (league wise) in years and we were non existent when we were all hoping we would come out and play them off the park. The movement is what sets them apart, and their individual ability on the ball. They all constantly moved to get into positions to receive the ball, and they can all comfortably pass and keep possession even when under pressure. When they lost the ball they all sprinted back into position and it was an absolute class professional performance. Watch City and rarely will you see such movement, Milner does move a lot trying to get into positions but Barry is very static. They have a better team but they also work a lot harder. They play neat passes and are quick to change direction when needed which is something we dont do. Just basic football learnt from 5 and 6 aside youth development we are young in our development and can be incredible but Barca are miles ahead!

Just because it worked last year, doesn't mean it will work that way next time around. You'd think Guardiola might have learned something about two legged ties. They played with complete abandon in the first half of the away leg, which is a cardinal sin, doubly so when it's the first leg. It was almost disrespectful. Would they do that next time? I'm not so sure. I think they have the potential to be a bit more flexible without Ibra, and in any case, the closing down starts with all three attackers now.

Surely this is a joke? no team is on the same level as Barcelona least of all us right now, ridiculous comparison, lets win our own league before we start comparing ourselves to Europes best shall we, we Haven't got a single player who'd get in their team.
