How good were the Bee Gees?

Very talented family

Barry wrote some great songs for other people like Streisand, Dionne Warwick and Diana Ross

genius.

the actually singing is about opinion and could be up for debate. their contribution to the industry and their writing talent most certainly not.

They were absolute Gash
An old girlfriend of mine dragged me to see them at the garter. The one with the really high pitched voice was the worst.

To pay her back I made her come with to see Slade and Thin Lizzy with me at the Apollo (I think may have been the Hard rock)

the woman absolutely loved it that pissed me off even more

Mind you they did get some big acts at the Garter back in the day

In 1976 The Dooleys won Best Group category at the Club Mirror National Club Acts Awards. The presentation was held at Wythenshawe's Golden Garter Club, with the show featuring fellow award winners; Paul Daniels (Speciality act), Fiddlygig (Comedy Group), Mike Channing (Male vocalist), Cannon and Ball (Comedy act) and Pete Price (Best compere). Mancunian comedian Bernard Manning hosted the evening.

Gene Pitney - One club from the seventies has a special place in Pitney's affections, the Golden Garter in Wythenshawe - the cabaret venue turned bingo club which was destroyed by fire in 1990. "It was a huge club in its day. It was fantastic," Pitney recalls. "It was a smoke-filled, drinking atmosphere and a late-night show. Sometimes it was like looking through a haze to see your audience. And it got pretty rowdy at times, but it was fun. Those kind of shows always had a tremendous amount of bouncers. There were ladies who'd rush the stage and grab whatever they could from you."

Who would have thought it loads of bouncers needed in Wythensahwe in the mid seventies

Said ex-Girlfriend has pointed out I dragged her to see Thin lizzy and slade in 72 and she reminded me of it when she made me go with her family to see the Bee Gees in 1974 apparently, god my memory is fried, she says she still has some teddy I bought for her from the Garter I have no knowledge of any of this

I think they get some stick undeserved stick purely for their disco period output as others have said, their pre disco stuff and particularly the 60's stuff is very good.
Their world wide sales have not been bettered by many and songs written for others sold by the bucket load - yes as have One Direction's songs, but no one will still be playing them in 10 years time and they wont be entering Halls of Fame anytime soon either.

They get the thumbs up from me :)

Wasnt around in their heyday, but most of their recognisable hits are toe tappingly glorious.
