Great read: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/9471db52-97bb-11e0-9c37-00144feab49a.html#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/9471db52-97bb ... b49a.html#</a>#axzz1PcyWA9Zg

only stats like 1-0 matter.

what a player runs in a game, or how many corners are given is just worthless shite. the score is the only thing that counts.

Did you read it?

Of course the score is what counts, and at the end of the season the points etc. But the article was a great read about which stats are important in assessing players and which ones are not. A fascinating read for me anyway.

it's how you reach the score that counts

ignore that and most times you won't get the score you want

Depends which coach is managing the Team. Mourinho nd Van Gaal are addicted to some statics.

I think especially on Midfields, the Work-Run-Ratio which Uefa presents in the CL Matches is very interessing.

Stats alone don't prove anything, but they're a good indicator of performance.

Anomalies do happen though; I read that Modric only scored 3 goals and got 4 assists last season, though he's widely regarded as one of the best creative CMs in the league. Even Anderson got better goalscoring statistics than that last season, but does that mean he's better? No, of course it doesn't.

As I said, they're not a bad way of collating a players' overall performance if you don't have the time to watch them play all the time - but they're no substitute for actually watching and observing a whole game.

A lot of sense for a rag ;-)
