'the burger carts'
35p burgers boild in water on a stale bun topped with boild onions served up by filthy old men with plasters hanging off there fingers theyd probably been picking there arses as well but they tasted good after a few pints of greenals

Maine Road could be intimidating, of that there is no doubt. I have friends who support other clubs who reckon it was the worst.

I went to the Old Den and for me that was on another planet.

Leeds in the late 70s was horrendous.

Newcastle had the biggest firm i have ever seen waiting for us on the car park.

Chelsea was scary

West Ham not nice

Portsmouth when Simmo scored was pretty hairy.

Liverpool and Everton were cunts

Wolves bricked the trains

Burnden park was like a battleground

Football is so much better these days, at least you have a good chance of being treated like a normal human being
By fans of other clubs, maybe. But the Police treat us like the lowest scum on Earth these days.

Police = cunts!

Agree, but city had it with them all the way back to town. Many a geordie shit there load that day!!

Went from '75 onwards, first with my Dad and brother and then stood in the Kippax with mates. Very good memories of the place, loved the Parkside when I got a bit older. Saw quite a bit of trouble (mostly when we sat in the Platt Lane - those benches!) and some big fat nob head rag chinned me once when walking out with my Dad - I was 14. My Grandad (RIP-He's the main reason we're all blues.) lived in Withington so we'd often park up and walk from his house. Remember going for a coke in the social club where we had our Junior Blue meetings, with them before the games.
I would imagine it was very intimidating for away fans but for us it was brilliant.
Had my first car nicked from there though - wouldn't mind but it was a crap-heap anyway.

This is a fascinating thread. I must admit even as a blue I always felt a sense of relief when i got on that bus taking me back to Piccadilly station and when I drove there (usually on my own) I felt at ease when I could see all the windows of my car intact after a game. For all those great days on the Kippax looking down on the hallowed turf the Etihad stadium is much more enjoyable experience all round.

almost salivating

Agree with andyhinch. Started going to Maine Road when I was very young. I lived in Whalley Range, and used to walk to the ground and back. Never felt threatened, never felt anything but part of a large, and rather eccentric family! Some really wonderful times.

Agree with andyhitch as well I used to travel from Oldham on my jack from being 11 or so and then walk to Maine Rd from Victoria. Then a mad dash back to Victoria for the last train back if it was a night match. I remember a bunch of rag's hanging around by the corn exchange one night and as I ran through them they dragged my scarf off, went back and got a right tatering but came up with the prize.

Maine Rd used to just put a shiver up my back when you first saw the glow of the lights.

Have to say though as one of those 50 year old overweight wry faced Blue's I prefer the comfort of the Eitihad now, must be an age thing or me piles!

read a few posts on here about goin to the games at maine rd as a kid and its a shame you dont really see it anymore, suppose its a sign of the times.

me n mi mates started goin on our own on the bus when i was about 12 normally 4 of us, one of us would get 10 bensons to whack! when we got to the ground we always managed to find a blue who'd get us some cans normally skol or tennants fookin happy days sat on the wall being cheeky little bastards!

all thats changed now is i dont smoke but hav the 6 cans all to miself.
