How long before teams start to try and copy Barca?

And should we do it ourselves?

That was total football, great to watch. With our money we should be capable of buying a team which can do something similar, right? I think Mancini is more likely to turn us into an Inter clone rather than a Barca clone, good, defensive team who can score goals but never have the possesion dominance of Barca.

Roberto Martinez in the Championship was making Swansea play similar to Barca and it will be interesting to see if he can get Wigan playing good football when he buys his own players this summer.

I can see where you are coming from tbh, but surely its the players that barca have that allow for such play ??
messi is as good as he is for a reason. :)

I watched Barcelona's reserve team do exactly the same thing to Spurs in the preseason Wembley tournament.

It's just the way the whole club teaches football.

I don't want to be a clone of anyone.

I would like to play a bit of nice football, but also be able to grind out results agains the tough lower prem side aswell as the big side.

Barca didn't win last night....

we've scored 7 goals this season against Arsenal, and conceded 2.
Thats playing under the blackburn and wales style of football...

Try and copy them?

You mean by playing total football and winning stuff?

How the fuck are we going to 'copy' them??????

Just choked on my lunch reading that

Credit must go to Guardiola. I consider him a managerial genius. The system he plays is next to impossible to counter with conventional formations. He has a win % of over 75% both with Barcelona A and B teams. 80% this season. Simply phenomenal. Let's not forget the first thing he did was get rid of Deco, Ronaldinho etc. A move lots of people thought was suicide at the time. His planning is meticulous and you can see how much effort he puts into the job as he looks emotionally drained most weeks and wouldn't sign a deal beyond one year.

Yes they have 3 of the best players... probably THE 3 best players in world football in their side, but he also makes the most out of good players. Maxwell, Puyol, Keita etc are all made to look like top players under this guy.

Anyway, didn't we beat barca AT THE NOU CAMP this season.

Sohuldn't they be copying us?!!

Vlad Weiss had Messi in his back pocket that game, he was everywhere down the right flank, if he can play like that on a consistent basis we have a real talent on our hands.

thats a good point... we have a unique style of football given the players that are currently at the squad: try and resist any attack from the opposition, waiting patiently and hitting them on the counter with our immense pace.

not to say i dont think our style couldnt be improved, we still give teams too much space IMO.

but if we did copy barca's style,we would be narrowing down the types of players that we could sign, cos not all world class players would fit into the barca style of football.

think to yourself, where would tevez fit into the barca system? i dont think he would

please tell me you didnt just compare swansea to barcalona!? anyway, i reckon the perfect balance for the prem is a cross between arsenal and chelsea. to have a rapid counter attack and very skillful players (and an academy who seem to be CONSTANTLY churnin out quality), but also have some of chelseas steel, and be able to rough it out and beat teams like stoke. as much i hate to say it, united are the closest to this balance and is why they are probably conna win the prem

The essence of Barca's play is that it is underpinned by consummate technique. Some of the technical skills on display for MCFC v. Wigan were woeful. Barca players always seem to have a knack of being in a spot to receive a pass that doesn't require the receiver to do a great deal. It's all silky, effortless stroking of the ball. I texted my son part way through last night's match and queried why it was that Barca always seem to have fifteen or sixteen on the pitch!

I heard an interview a year or 2 ago with a Spanish football correspondent and he said the way Barca play is instilled in the players at the academy and all the way through to the first team. basically, if you watched a youth game you'd see the exact style and tempo of play as wiht the 1st team.
Barcelaona pad the 1st team with excellent payers but the core comes from the academy. I dont think you can necessarily buy that.

What is so impressive about Barca is their ability to go away from home and dictate the game. Clearly the Emirates is a wonderful stadium/pitch but in the first half especially, Barcelona made it their own. As much as Barca's style of play is impressive it is the accuracy of their passing that is mind blowing. At times in games it isn't always possible to play that killer pass, Barca know how to work and wait for those openings, all the time retaining possession. They are without a doubt the most aesthetically pleasing team in the world at the moment, others might be successful, might even be able to beat Barcelona in one off games, but in terms of pure entertainment and enjoyment in watching football, no one comes close.

Without Messi they wouldn't be anywhere near as effective.

So copying them is pointless as there is obv only one Messi.

It would be impossible to do this in England. Arsenal are currently the closest thing in England after 20 years under one of the world's best mangers and they were getting schooled in their own backyard at times the other night.

To get to the top in English football, you need power, pace, agression, directness and a solid defence. Chelsea and Stretford follow this model, wining football, and are currently top of the PL. When these two play Barca, they are happy to surrender possesion knowing they'll hit them hard and fast when the do get the ball. Exactly how we did Barca in the Joan Gamper....

The English game does not allow you to create players with great technique as the game is simply played too fast here and is a lot more physical. When clubs look at young players, there is always a greater emphasis on thier physical attributes rather than technique.

It's also no co-incidence that the Arsenal team have, for a long time, consisted of mainly foreign players. Ones that have honed their skills in a pedastrian league with Wengers skill being able to spot the ones who are also tough enough for the PL...against the ones who are not (a la Robinho).

If a mid table club in the PL stated going 'All Barca' they would get bullied out of the PL in no time.
