How Many Blues Home Brew

Tried it once and the results weren't great (probably my failing). I have a beer tap at home, so now I just buy in kegs and so I get draught beer without leaving my flat. At the prices here, it probably works out no more expensive than brewing my own and without the hassle.

Like growing your own veg never seen the point really. Just buy the type of beer I want when I want it, depending on mood or even the weather can be IPA ,Stout, flavoured porters,Lager, Cider, Ale.

I do the occasional cider, at its simplest I stick 5 litres of apple juice in a demijohn (with an airlock) and 1/2 teaspoon champagne yeast, 1 teaspoon yeast nutrient leave for 2 - 3 weeks then bottle and leave for another month or two and it’s real tasty.

Variations include brew a couple of bags of earl grey for extra flavour. Maybe 200g sugar if you’re feeling adventurous - go for a bottle of ribena for a blackberry cider. Just make it up to 5l with apple juice. My last was brilliant but 8% so not an everyday session drink!

I’ve just experimented using nothing but cherries and berries squash, sugar, water, yeast + nutrient. Only a month old but a bit like drinking 4% neat squash (used 1 litre squash likely too much) - if I can get that sweetness right, I’m producing my own kroppaberg!

I brewed a turbo cider once. Cider yeast a shed load of apple juice from Costco and a bottle of vimto. It turned out pretty good and was probably the easiest brewday I'd ever had

Like growing your own veg it's fresher can taste better and you know what's in it.
Like any hobby it's not always cheap depending on the equipment you buy but when you nail it it's mega.

Tried the beer brewing thing many years ago when I was a student and it was vomit. I did make some grapefruit wine from a carton of juice and that was awful also, however I found a bottle hiding in the garage years later and it had aged beautifully.

I tried home brewing a few times aged about 19. First two brews were like gnats piss so I thought I'd make a 'special brew' by doubling the sugar and reducing the water by about 4 pints. As it was almost fermented several bottles started exploding. One exploded and a shard of glass hit my brother cutting his eyebrow. My dad made me put the rest of the bottles in the garden. Several more exploded but about 8 bottles didn't and I drank them. Talk about rocket fuel! Lol.
