Whilst I agree that the usual tourists "drive up/visitor centre/look at stones/drive off box ticked" way can be a bit underwhelming, approaching on foot from the River Avon North West of Stonehenge via Durrington Walls, The Cursus, The Avenue and then onto Stonehenge is pretty special, especially arriving early in the morning.
