Bayern was a special case as not only were the flight dear the hotels were ridiculous too. Madrid is cheap for accomodation from what i have looked at tonight.

True, but the fact the beer festival was on should have made it a more attractive trip. If you're prepared to shell out 2 ton for a flight you'll stretch the extra for the hotels.
