How many points to win the league?

Field our strongest team and we will win. Ederson, walker, otamendi, stones, delphinio, Fern, De Bruyne, Silva, Raz, Sane, Kun. If for whatever reason we need to change 2 or 3 in that team, we probably won’t win.

If we can rest key players and still beat Burnley and Bristol City then our season is in excellent shape as we will have fresh legs ready to tackle Anfield and leading into Feb with CL knockout games and hopefully then a league cup final.

Technically and factually correct and we are talking about a different team in a different season. What they did last year matters not, but even when they weren’t playing three games a week (whilst their opponents were), they still didn’t manage it.

16 wins in a row is not a simple task hence only one club ever doing it in 130 odd years.
I jumped in and wasn't sure exactly what the discussion was about. Pyschologically, and technically I don't think this Chelsea team is in a place to put a long run together, but things might change. You start with small steps, and teams grow as Chelsea did last season and we did this season. We have to be very very confident at the moment.

The pleasure this season will be seeing how it unfolds with a 15 point lead.

It's got to the point now where I would seriously consider resting players in the league games and putting more into the Cups. I am not saying I would do it. But we should consider our objectives for this season. Do we want 4 trophies? can we do it? What is more important? Getting 100 points and 100 goals, or going for a treble or quadruple?

Maybe we carry on as we are putting everything into every league game, but the possibility is there if we want of re-jigging resources and priorities. Obviously it's not up to us as fans, but it would be interesting to know what fans thought about what you would like City to focus on. When you have a mad fixture program you have to prioritise and you can rest players in one competition to give you a better chance in the other competition. teams do it on a small scale all the time.

order of priority
League - Win it as soon as possible, if we win it early we can then rest players, but only then
Champions League - Lower in priority only because I think we have a better chance if we wrap the league up
Fizzy Cup - We are in a semi final - 3 games for a trophy
FA Cup - Least of our priorities - Games fall weekends. We should try and win it but not at a cost of 1 || 2

Records are only remembered when somebody is close to breaking them. Trophies are remembered for ever.

This next week is crucial. Pep will have to decide what his priority is because beating Burnley and Bristol City will not be easy if we significantly weaken the team. It's not an easy decision to make.

Very true, I wasn't really aware of the records we could potentially break until this season.

Arsenal's invincible team/season will be remembered forever. I would like to do that, but it would be rendered meaningless if we lost one game. In fact Arsenal's invincibles drew a lot of games and did not score a great number of goals, but it would be fantastic to go through a league season undefeated. We have to decide what we want from this season. I don't really think we can have everything.

It's what we are all praying for ;-)

That would be nice.Getting a point at Anfield towards the total would be great. They play Fri and then nothing until us which is over a weeks prep for them.In the meantime we will have played twice. Not ideal.

That is why our position in the league gives us such a strong hand. We can rotate in the league more now. We shouldn't see a drop in performances. Bernardo, Gundogan, Danilo, Kompany, Mangala are all more than capable of performing to a level where we win games.

We should not be bothered about going the season unbeaten. It means very little. Arsenal are remembered for it but since our run most have seen that actually they drew far too many and Chelsea's league win last season was more impressive because they won more games. A league title is a league title you do not get another one for going unbeaten.

We should do all we can to win multiple trophies this season. If we play well in the first leg against Bristol City, and Basel in Feb then we can have the tie won after the first game meaning we can make changes.

It was said on SSN last week that if results continue as they are now, we will win the league by the end of March that is the game against Everton away. That will mean that by the time we play the rags we could well be Champions. I can just see the look on Jose's face if his rags team has to give us a guard of honour onto the pitch at the start of the game. Now that would be 1 of the priceless moments in football. So I reckon something in the region of 84 to 88 points should see us as Champions.

I’d actually prefer to get 100 points than go unbeaten. Never been done in a 38 game season, it would be a remarkable feat.

100 points and two or three trophies would surely mean that this team is far superior to the invincibles
They only won the league that season

Like I said we are all just speculating and whatever you say, you don't 100% know any of the things you state, hence speculation. I have recently 'speculated' to the tune of £50 that we will do what no other team has ever done this season. Nobody knows whether we will do it or not but that is why I got 40/1 for it.
There is a difference between speculating and arriving at reasonable conclusions based on evidence and logic. Stating will will win the league falls into the latter.

I did one of those predictor things during a few minutes of boredom. Whilst they are completely irrelevant, i had us on 94 points. Liverpool 2nd on 84, Chelsea 83, Rags 81, Spurs 80, Arse 79. West Brom, Swansea, Brighton went down.

We finished with 2 defeats. Liverpool, Spurs away.
