How many points to win the league?

I did one of those predictor things during a few minutes of boredom. Whilst they are completely irrelevant, i had us on 94 points. Liverpool 2nd on 84, Chelsea 83, Rags 81, Spurs 80, Arse 79. West Brom, Swansea, Brighton went down.

We finished with 2 defeats. Liverpool, Spurs away.
So basically you have us finishing bottom of the big six, Points wise from now till the end of the season.

It was said on SSN last week that if results continue as they are now, we will win the league by the end of March that is the game against Everton away. That will mean that by the time we play the rags we could well be Champions. I can just see the look on Jose's face if his rags team has to give us a guard of honour onto the pitch at the start of the game. Now that would be 1 of the priceless moments in football. So I reckon something in the region of 84 to 88 points should see us as Champions.

Amongst the many stupid things he says, one of them was he would go on holiday as soon as he couldn't win the title anymore, so if we've won it before the derby, he won't be there!

i did a super pessimistic option and we won the league on goal diff :)

and when i super pessimistic, i mean really a grim slog to the finish line with United, Chelsea and Liverpool storming the next 16.

I was being pretty pessimistic, but had us beating Chelsea, United and Arsenal. Few draws against difficult sides away. Theory is we'd drop league points in latter stages of CL when the others are probably knocked out.

It will take us sooner than Chelsea did last year and they had an ridiculous amount of points when they won the league. I remember the day they clinched was like "fuckkkkk!" I hadn't realized they were that far ahead.

100 points and two or three trophies would surely mean that this team is far superior to the invincibles
They only won the league that season

It would. We need to win more than one trophy. Not arsed about going unbeaten. Lets try and get the most wins and points but if we have an FA Cup final and/or CL final to look forward to and the league in the bag then fuck both off to concentrate on those.

I expect that Chelsea will continue with good form and in the next 10 games replicate their form from the last 10. Draw a couple, lose one. If that happens and we beat them at the Etihad, I think we will be there or thereabouts by the time of the derby - high 80’s points. Now that would be something, win the title by beating the Rags.

Chelsea have to play us, Liverpool, Spurs and United yet, I seriously doubt they will win all of those. I personally think the gap is more likely to increase because we are probably the only team that can go to Liverpool or Arsenal and win. Most of the top 4 will of played each other by March and by then I think it could be over with if results go our way.

The one player Pep needs to manage is Fernandinho, he will definitely not play against Burnley and I don't think he needs to play against Bristol either. If he can get away with playing Sane/KDB/Sterling/Aguero for only one of the cup games until Liverpool then we will be in a very good position. It is going to be a very important squad depth test week for Yaya/Bernardo and the young lads.

If we just win all our homes games, including the derby & Chelsea games, we'll have 86 points and the maximum the rags could get would then be 92 (as would Liverpool) & Chelsea/Spurs on 91. So winning just two away games (as well as the 8 home ones) would guarantee us finishing top.

And that assumes one of those wins all their remaining games.

It's going to drag for me until that Liverpool game! Just want this title in the bag asap. Anything else for me is a bonus. Its only our 5th ever title and would be huge.

I know trophies are what counts, but having an unbeaten season isn’t something you can turn your nose up to. Arsenal’s invincebales will be remembered for years. It would be great if we managed to match them along with breaking the record points and goals scored. It’s looking increasingly likely we will manage to do all three, especially if we avoid losing to Liverpool next week.

Just done a quick end of season run in

Liverpool lose 0
Newcastle win 3
West Brom win 6
Burnley draw 7
Leicester win 10
Arsenal lose 10
Chelsea win 13
Stoke draw 14
Brighton win 17
Everton draw 18
United draw 19
Spurs draw 20

Swansea win 23
West Ham draw 24
Huddersfield win 27
Saints draw 28

Takes us to 90 points

Means the rags would need 14 wins 1 draw and 1 loss to match us - as I have the Derby a draw that would mean any more losses and they have had it
Means the chavs would need 44 points to match us which is 14 wins and 2 draws no defeats.
Means Spurs can only drop 1 or 2 points as well - same as Liverpool.

Would mean us dropping points in 9 of the remaining 16 games.

That's what I wanted to read but I seem to remember the rags bring presented with the trophy at Everton a few years ago when they'd won it a couple of games previously.

Suppose it'll be what it'll be assuming we manage it.
I don't they will present it at Southampton away for one minute. I'm going, digs booked, just to clap the lads off from what I hope will have been a record season:)

You'll see all 3 of scum, chavs and Spuds prioritise come Feb, keep and eye on match day teams before champs league.... I get being conservative, however there is at least another 8/9pts in your picks, imo!!!

yes I agree Zim - being cautious.

Like I said we are all just speculating and whatever you say, you don't 100% know any of the things you state, hence speculation. I have recently 'speculated' to the tune of £50 that we will do what no other team has ever done this season. Nobody knows whether we will do it or not but that is why I got 40/1 for it.

All the stats point to this being a done deal.
If Utd matched Chelsea’s record points total average (2.5pts a game) from now till the end of the season it will still only put them on 87pts.
If they carry on the average they have atm (2.13) they’ll finish on 81pts.
We are pretty much nailed on for another 30pts at least.
