How much does football affect your mental health…?

yeah WhatsApp groups not much you can do, I’m the only Blue in group of 12 ( others reds )
Also the only one who stills goes on after a defeat and only one to have never left group sulking about having piss taken

reds are pussies
Two lessons I’ve learnt
- Never bite.. that’s what they want
- Never miss the opportunity to take the piss as they’ll never go easy when they get a rare opportunity

i will also never mention a decision that’s gone against us or moan about a ref or ever make excuses

It improves it.

Watching the game helps you to forget everyday troubles whether its personal or current affairs and politics etc.

Delooney and co can try as hard as they want to to politics the game but as long as we ignore them then they become irrelevant. By the way Delooney doesn't impact my mental health one bit, he is pure comedy (to laugh at, not with).

I have to say that during Covid and furlough football gave me something to look forward to
The CL defeat really spoiled what was a fabulous season for us and it did make me miserable for a few weeks. I was so happy when this season started

I don't read newspapers and I very rarely listen to pre match and post match analysis when I'm watching a game on the telly, but the commentary can really irritate me which will make me switch the sound off and I'll put music on

The war in Ukraine has affected me mentally and as I said in the derby post match thread, the win over the rags took my mind off the terrible suffering and actually made me happy for the first time since the Russian invasion

Does football affect me?
Being good does because there just seems to be more pressure

To a degree yes, definitely for 24 hours after a loss, longer if it’s a big one.

Maybe slightly different but tbh, I could never shake hands after a loss; later on in the bar, after a shower & getting changed, absolutely fine, no drama, but straight on the final whistle, still on the pitch, was always too much. Couldn’t bear it.

Nowhere near as much as it used to.

I have accepted now that in the scheme of things football is just a passing distraction and doesn't really mean that much.

Football is a release from the stresses of life, not one of the stresses of life.

I now tend not to watch really big games. Too stressful. It’s meant to be entertainment. If it’s not entertaining then what’s the point. I had a ticket for the derby and gave it away. Same for Liverpool. But Fulham at home in the cup - love those games. Take the whole family. The stress of HAVING to win games is immense. It’s too much for me - had a mental meltdown last year. I no longer listen to talkSPORT or watch pre match ramblings. Looking forward to soton cup game and atletico games but prob won’t watch any league games until the last game when the whole family are going. Too stressful. Hopefully we’ll have won it or lost it by then. When we’re Shit again I’ll go to every game lol. It’s defo a case of each to their own. But I’m struggling the the stress and scrutiny of every game

If City lose a big game, drop points in a title race or exit the CL I find it hard to sleep.
I read Twitter every night when in bed so on those nights its even worse to read.

I remember during the time of the Super League talk as well it affected my sleep also.

Not looking forward to this game against Liverpool in a few weeks. Find games like that impossible to enjoy almost. I'm on a stag weekend that week as well so will be in a bar watching it with some Liverpool fans in the group

Since May 13th 2012, not as much.

That day changed everything for me (and probably others)

I was the only Blue where I worked and after that day, people said they couldn't believe how stressed I'd been in the preceeding weeks (the run in) and how much I'd gone back to "being my old self" after we'd won it.

Obviously, I didn't realise it at the time, but thinking back, yeah, I was stressed as I thought we'd blown it, only for the story to unfold in our favour.

derby day's used to affect me too, so much so that I could barely eat pre-match, but these days, coinciding with 93:20, me being older and the rags being garbage, I'm nowhere near as bad.

The chumps league final last season, I was giddy all day as it was new territory and I know next month against the dippers, I'll be a bag of nerves up until kick off.

So yes I still love City as much as I ever did, but these days apart from the odd occasion, I can take it all in my stride
