just curious to know how often you have seen players we have signed or been linked with?

to be honest ive seen very very little of rsc, parker or bridge. in fact id seen very little of robinho before we signed him. even though i'd love for us to sign kaka i couldnt tell you much about him because i cant remember the last time i saw him play. probably in a cl match or for brazil but i bet it was ages ago.

its just that a lot of people on here have very strong opinions about certain players and i'd be interested to know what they base it on?

rsc - good player for blackburn but that's his level not a player to take us up a level
parker - again good for west ham, gone backwards since charlton and very injury prone
bridge - decent left back, not world class but not a bad signing

Games against City in tne case of Bridge and Parker, plus what I have seen of Southampton, Chelsea, Charlton etc on the box over many years.

I don't get to see much foreign football. Big name players like Robinho we see all the time, but the lesser known players like Jo, Samaras it's just You Tube and the odd TV highlight, and at the time you don't think for one minute that x could be playing for City in 12 months time

Other prem sides, at least 2 a season.

Parker was ace at Charlton, not seen much of him for 3/4 years, RSC ha the Ariel threat we need and Bridge is England's second best left back no contest.

i try to watch real madrid or barca most weeks and i watch most of the televised premier league games. so i do get to see a fair amount of football.

I reckon Bridge is a top signing. Solid defender and decent going forward, puts in a good cross.
RSC, it's hard to judge. He was great last season with the right service but his record other than last season is far from convincing.
Parker is a decent signing, IMO. He's a tough tackling box-to-box midfielder. Something we need desperately. He won't set the world alight but he's probably about as good as we can attract at the moment.

i wasnt asking what your opinion was, i was asking what you base your opinion on.

by my reckoning the minimum you would see any other premiership player is twice a season (both city games) how often are blackburn and westham on the telly? do you watch streams online?

basically what i want to know is how many games have you seen rsc playing to come to the conclusion that he isnt good enough for us?

I punt on most of the European leagues, so watch most of the weekly round ups and live games on JustinTV/MyP2P if I've got a decent bet on.

It's difficult to gauge a players ability, because some leagues are not as strong as the EPL. For instance the Dutch ErieDivise has plenty of goals, possibly explaining Samaras' strike rate at Herenveen (and the fact he played with Huntelaar).

I used to play Centre Mid, so always look out for them. At the moment Xavi & Yaya Toure at Barca are peerless.

I watched RSC lead the line at Spurs this year.
Thought he was excellent. Held the ball up, brought others into play, physical prescence in the air.

which raises other points about judging a player on tv. highlights never tell the full story and also watching on tv/internet even a live game you miss a lot - especially movement off the ball.

It does Eddie, but you get to see who is bossing a game and who treats the ball like a hot potato etc.
Watched Marseille tonight in a French cup game, -4 degrees away at a lower division team on a pitch like QPR's plastic one.
Taiwo was head and shoulders above anyone else. Drove his team forward, excellent technique, hardly gave the ball away. Could have done with him yesterday.

true i suppose. just sick of reading 'xyz is shit' when all the reasearch they've done is watch match of the day.

Castillo looked a world beater for Mexico in the last Copa America.
Not strong enough for premier league though.

Corluka a better player in international football than club football.
More time on the ball when playing for Croatia.

Drogba gives eveything for the Ivory Coast, not always the case with Chelsea.
Van Nistelrooy moved up a level since leaving the swamp. Got his hunger back and was awesome before his injury.
